Police officers retreated after their car was surrounded by what they describe as a “hostile” group of people at a car meet in Taranaki early this morning.<\/p>\n

Police said they were notified of a group of antisocial road users gathering at Kina Road, Oaonui at about 1am.<\/p>\n

A video posted on YouTube<\/a> shows about a dozen people approaching a police car, which then reverses, with people running after it.<\/p>\n

Officers spoke to some of the people, but found them hostile, police said.<\/p>\n

“Due to the hostile nature of the group, it was determined that the safest course of action was to monitor the meet from nearby and gather information.”<\/p>\n

Police will use the information they gathered for follow-up enquiries.<\/p>\n
