A UK woman, a pet parent herself, lost all her limbs after contracting sepsis because of what doctors believed to be a dog lick.<\/p>\n
Manjit Sangha, 52, was found \u201cslumped on the sofa, her lips blue, and her hands and feet ice cold\u201d by her husband, Kamaljit, in July 2025, according to a GoFundMe page.<\/p>\n
However, fighting against the odds, Manjit survived \u2013 after spending 32 weeks in hospital, with several cardiac arrests and four-limb amputations<\/a>.<\/p>\n A dog lick that turned deadly<\/p>\n Manjit may have developed sepsis from something innocuous, potentially a lick from her dog on a small cut, doctors said.<\/p>\n Her GoFundMe page said she was diagnosed with septic shock, complicated by DIC (Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation)\u2014a rare and life-threatening condition causing abnormal blood clotting throughout the body.<\/p>\n She was placed in an induced coma<\/a>, on life support, and on dialysis.<\/p>\n Also Read | Woman almost died of sepsis, reversed type 2 diabetes, lost 50 kg- here’s how<\/a>What is sepsis?<\/p>\n Sepsis<\/a> occurs when the immune system overreacts to an infection and starts attacking the body\u2019s own tissues and organs.<\/p>\n It is a serious medical condition which claims around 50,000 deaths in the UK each year, the UK Sepsis Trust said.<\/p>\n \u2018Can happen to anybody,\u2019 Manjit warns<\/p>\n Manjit, who was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, February 18, told the BBC that she was still coming to terms with her quadruple amputation.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s difficult to explain the experience. Losing your limbs and your hands in a short time period is a very big thing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Manjit warned that cases such as hers \u201ccould happen to anybody\u201d and urged that people take it seriously. \u201cIt\u2019s very serious and not to be taken lightly.\u201d<\/p>\n Photo Credit: The Telegraph via Kam Sangha<\/p>\n She said she was determined to walk again and to return to work. \u201cI\u2019ve sat down in my chair and my bed enough.
