It took time, firstly because the management at Zee Studios changed. Then I wanted the film to release without an interval, which was a big no for theatres and distributors. That delayed things further. Finally, I decided to release it online because that\u2019s where I feel most of my audience is.<\/p>\n

The international press was not very impressed when Kennedy was screened at Cannes?
Yes, we realised that international viewers didn\u2019t fully understand the context of Covid and what happened in Mumbai. So, they saw it as a film trying to be John Wick. I\u2019m used to negative reviews and to my films being understood for what they are over a period barring a couple.<\/p>\n
Where do you place Kennedy in your repertoire?
Kennedy is very personal. It brought me out of a very dark phase. I don\u2019t have a perspective on my own body of work only an outsider can judge that. But Kennedy is deeply personal to me.<\/p>\n
Rahul Bhat is outstanding in Kennedy. Was he the first and only choice to play the haunted assassin?
Rahul wasn\u2019t the first choice. It was the Tamil star Vikram. But I never truly saw Rahul in the role until I actually saw him in the look. I tend to be blind sometimes to people around me while casting.<\/p>\n
And Sunny Leone?
Sunny was always the only choice.<\/p>\n
If you had to make Kennedy again, what would you change?
I would never make it again. It\u2019s done. And I wouldn\u2019t change anything. This is one of those rare films with the least improvisation, and it is the closest to the script.<\/p>\n
