Friday marked another milestone for Ng\u0101ti Kahungunu Iwi, as these homes form part of the Kahungunu K\u0101inga Affordable Rental Programme, which provides safe, high\u2011quality housing designed specifically for Ng\u0101ti Kahungunu iwi members, supporting long\u2011term wh\u0101nau wellbeing and housing security.<\/p>\n
Hastings Mayor Wendy Schollum said a crucial part of the success of these affordable homes was the partnership with iwi.<\/p>\n
\u201cSoon six wh\u0101nau will live in these houses to make them their homes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ng\u0101ti Kahungunu chairman Bayden Barber said it was fantastic to celebrate the milestone.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been important that we walk together with our partners as we continue to build affordable, safe housing for our wh\u0101nau.\u201d <\/p>\n
The Flaxmere development aligns with the wider Whai K\u0101inga Whai Oranga programme, a four\u2011year, $730 million Crown commitment to accelerate M\u0101ori\u2011led housing.<\/p>\n
In 2022, Ng\u0101ti Kahungunu Iwi entered into a Housing Investment Partnership with Te T\u016b\u0101papa Kura K\u0101inga Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, and Te Puni K\u014dkiri, securing $45.3m to advance iwi housing aspirations.<\/p>\n
Barber said to date, Kahungunu K\u0101inga had supported over 135 wh\u0101nau into accommodation.<\/p>\n
Ng\u0101ti Kahungunu chief executive Chrissie Hape said she was very pleased with the Kahungunu K\u0101inga team. <\/p>\n
Hape also acknowledged the hard work of the contractors to help meet goals.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese homes are the culmination of 18 months of negotiation and work with our partners.\u201d <\/p>\n
Last year, Kahungunu K\u0101inga opened 20 affordable and healthy new rental homes on Russell St in \u014ct\u0101ne, Central Hawke\u2019s Bay. <\/p>\n
