Michael Campbell has revealed he was a cage dancer at a night club before becoming one of New Zealand\u2019s most successful golf players \u2013 and earned \u201cgood money\u201d while doing so.<\/p>\n
In a recent interview posted to the eulegendstour Instagram account, Campbell was asked alongside other golf stars which jobs they had previously worked at.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t believe I\u2019m going to say this,\u201d Campbell responded.<\/p>\n
While other golfers answered with jobs such as being a breakfast waiter or a garage cleaner \u2013 Campbell\u2019s answer left the interviewers \u201cshook\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cUm\u2026 to earn a bit of extra money, I used to be a cage dancer,\u201d Campbell said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo you didn\u2019t,\u201d the interviewer said back.<\/p>\n
Campbell then explained he had the job when he was about 19 or 20-years-old to pay for his golf related travel.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I was an amateur to get money to travel around New Zealand, I got this opportunity to dance at this night club, and had two cages on either side of the stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the job was \u201cgood money\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI must say, I must have earned about 2500 New Zealand dollars that one night, through tipping, so I was pretty good you know. But not anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
Campbell went on to become a professional golfer in 1995 and won the 2005 US Open.<\/p>\n
Later the same year, Campbell claimed what was the largest prize in golf after winning the HSBC World Match Play Championship worth \u00a31,000,000 (NZ$2.25 million).<\/p>\n
