{"id":299752,"date":"2026-02-24T12:52:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T12:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/299752\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T12:52:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T12:52:09","slug":"win-network-acquires-nine-darwin-expanding-broadcast-operations-into-the-nt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/299752\/","title":{"rendered":"WIN Network acquires Nine Darwin, expanding broadcast operations into the NT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Regional news broadcaster WIN has announced it will acquire Nine Darwin, just over a year after the Nine Network axed its Darwin TV news bulletin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">In January last year, Nine <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-01-22\/channel-9-darwin-local-bulletin-axed\/104845996\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/104845996\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">scrapped its local Darwin bulletin<\/a>, replacing it with Queensland news in what the network called a &#8220;difficult yet necessary&#8221; decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The change led to a number of redundancies at Nine Darwin, with only a small cohort of editorial and sales staff remaining.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">It left the ABC as the only network providing a locally produced TV news bulletin in the Northern Territory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">In a statement released today, the WIN Network said it had entered into an agreement with Nine Darwin that would see it &#8220;assume ownership of [the station] and continue to broadcast Nine&#8217;s premium national content and programming across the Darwin licence area&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"An office building with WIN Network signs out the front\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/3adba3919863cebbade20aedb0323ad2.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">WIN Network will be expanding into the Northern Territory, building on its presence across Australia.
