Its first-half, after-tax profit was $46.94 million, up from $28.76m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XwsInylahQtJnSbA\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cI think they\u2019ve kind of soft-signalled that things are progressing well, and tried to show management\u2019s confidence,\u201d Singh said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"XwsInylahQtJnSbA\" style=\"display:none\">Mercury NZ, up 2.44% to $6.30, <a href=\"https:\/\/businessdesk.co.nz\/article\/markets\/mercury-builds-pays-and-avoids-capital-raise\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lifted underlying interim earnings, statutory profit and dividend<\/a> on the back of strong hydro and lower costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XwsInylahQtJnSbA\" style=\"display:none\">Among the other gentailers, Meridian Energy was up 2.32% to $5.74 and Contact Energy added 1.19% to $9.33.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XwsInylahQtJnSbA\" style=\"display:none\">Genesis Energy \u2013 after yesterday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/businessdesk.co.nz\/article\/markets\/genesis-launches-400m-raise-crown-to-tip-in-198m-to-hold-51\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rise in first-half earnings and news of its $400m raise<\/a> \u2013 soured 1.24% to $2.38.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XwsInylahQtJnSbA\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThe theme\u2019s been the same with the gentailers: much improved earnings from a tough period a year ago,\u201d Singh said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XwsInylahQtJnSbA\" style=\"display:none\">Elsewhere<\/p>\n<p class=\"XwsInylahQtJnSbA\" style=\"display:none\">ANZ Holdings was up 1.42% to $47.99. In Australia, the <a href=\"https:\/\/businessdesk.co.nz\/article\/finance\/former-anz-ceo-shayne-elliott-drops-lawsuit-over-a135m-bonus-no-deal-no-payment\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">parent company\u2019s former ANZ chief executive, Shayne Elliott, has quit his high-profile legal action<\/a> against the lender, the bank said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XwsInylahQtJnSbA\" style=\"display:none\">Scales was another notable mover, up 1.12% to $6.30 as it continued to go from strength to strength on positive sentiment, Singh said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XwsInylahQtJnSbA\" style=\"display:none\">In other market news outside the top 50 stocks, NZME rose 3.54% to $1.17 on <a href=\"https:\/\/businessdesk.co.nz\/article\/earnings-2026\/nzme-swings-back-to-net-profit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reporting an after-tax net profit of $13.1m for the year to December, reversing the prior year\u2019s $16m loss<\/a> and maintaining a final dividend of 6 cents a share.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XwsInylahQtJnSbA\" style=\"display:none\">Vulcan Steel, down 0.13% to $7.90, said cost pressure remained as it increased sales but posted a decline in interim net profit to $8.3m, from $9.2m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XwsInylahQtJnSbA\" style=\"display:none\">PGG Wrightson was 0.86% lower at $2.30 as it <a href=\"https:\/\/businessdesk.co.nz\/article\/primary-sector\/pgg-wrightson-results-buoyed-by-strong-primary-sector\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">posted a first-half net profit after tax of $17.3m, up 8% on the year<\/a>.
