{"id":303045,"date":"2026-02-26T10:49:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T10:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/303045\/"},"modified":"2026-02-26T10:49:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T10:49:09","slug":"man-found-living-in-sydney-housing-unit-filled-with-mountains-of-rubbish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/303045\/","title":{"rendered":"Man found living in Sydney housing unit filled with mountains of rubbish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">News.com.au reported that Homes NSW was aware of the situation but had not yet acted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">The resident has not been moved despite pleas for help from people over multiple months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">One of those people was a tradie who spent multiple days cleaning the house and documented the job on his social media. <\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">Lawn mower Nathan Stafford told news.com.au of his discovery. <\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">Stafford, who is known online as \u201cNathan\u2019s lawn and gardens\u201d, shared a video to his 2.9 million TikTok followers of the resident lying in a pile of rubbish at the home. <\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cGet this man out of this house now,\u201d he said in a TikTok message to the Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. <\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">Stafford said he first came across the home in late 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">But on Tuesday morning, he said he took a wrong turn and decided to carry out a welfare check at the house again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">He said he had been ignored the previous times he had visited the home. <\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">This time, after he decided to knock on the door, the tradie said he climbed up the gutter and banged on the man\u2019s window.<\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">The man eventually opened the door. <\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cI was completely transparent with him. I knew I had one opportunity here, mainly they\u2019re hostile, aggressive or shameful \u2026 so they won\u2019t let you in,\u201d he told news.com.au.<\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">In one of his TikTok videos, Stafford said he was able to gain the man\u2019s trust. <\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cI was just gagging walking through, I don\u2019t [normally] do that. There\u2019s rat poo everywhere, even on the mattress upstairs \u2026 that\u2019s what he\u2019s sleeping on,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">He called the situation the worst he\u2019d ever seen and estimated there were hundreds of rats in the home. <\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cI don\u2019t think anyone ever chooses to live like this. Photo \/ @nathanslawnandgardens<\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">In a statement, Homes NSW told news.com.au it was aware of the situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">Homes NSW said it had been \u201cactively working with the tenant\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"hVvnDVwvKaDCbCnNag\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cOur approach first and foremost is to work constructively and respectfully with our tenants to resolve issues and connect them with appropriate supports.
