Hilary Duff<\/a> is breaking her silence on Ashley Tisdale French<\/a>\u2019s viral \u201ctoxic\u201d mom group essay.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

The \u201cSo Yesterday\u201d singer opened up about her experience being swept up in the whirlwind drama surrounding Tisdale French\u2019s personal essay on a recent episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt really sad. I honestly felt really sad,\u201d Duff said of the situation. \u201cI was pretty taken aback and felt just sad.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

In her Jan. 1 essay for The Cut<\/a>, Tisdale French wrote about exiting a mom group after it \u201cstopped being healthy and positive” for her. Following its publication, the internet began to speculate over the potential members of the High School Musical star\u2019s former friend group, with many pointing out that Duff posted images of herself, Tisdale French, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor on Instagram in 2021.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Duff explained that she\u2019s been \u201clucky\u201d to have many friend groups in her life.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI have my core group of friends who have been my ride or die for 10 to 20 years,\u201d she explained, \u201cand I have tons of different groups of mom friends, because I have four kids, you know?\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Still, that didn\u2019t make Tisdale French\u2019s essay any easier to read.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I think I just was like, \u2018Whoa,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cIt sucks to read something that’s not true, and it sucks on behalf of, like, six women and all of their lives.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Duff\u2019s husband, singer-songwriter Matthew Koma, also made headlines amid the mom group drama <\/a>when he posted a photo of his face imposed over Tisdale French\u2019s on social media.\n<\/p>\n

“Read my new interview with [The Cut]. A mom group tell-all through a father’s eyes,\u201d he captioned the since-deleted image. \u201cWhen you’re the most self obsessed tone deaf person on earth, other moms tend to shift focus to their actual toddlers.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Duff denied knowing that her husband was going to post the photo.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cNo. Honestly, everything he does makes me laugh. So I was like, \u2018Oh, my God. Oh, my God,\u2019\u201d she recalled. \u201cBut I also don’t censor him, and I don’t tell him what he can and can’t post. He is so fierce for me, and I love him for that.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

When asked by host Alex Cooper if there was anything she wanted to clarify about the entire situation, Duff simply replied, \u201cNope. I think it came at like the craziest time where I was like, the timing felt not great, and I felt used.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
