A person has been seriously injured after a “road\u2011rage assault” in Hamilton this morning put a local primary school into lockdown.<\/p>\n
Police are searching for at least two offenders who fled the scene.<\/p>\n
Officers were called at around 9am on Friday with a report of a person being assaulted at the intersection of Massey St and Korimako St in the suburb of Frankton. The attackers fled in a vehicle.<\/p>\n
St John said an ambulance and a rapid response unit attended.<\/p>\n
“One patient, in serious condition, was transported to Waikato Hospital,” a St John spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
Detective Alistair Hill said initial inquiries suggested the assault was a “road rage incident”.<\/p>\n
“[It] is believed to have started on Higgins Road and made its way to the intersection where the assault occurred.<\/p>\n
“Police know there were at least two offenders but are yet to identify them or their vehicle and are now asking the public for their help.”<\/p>\n
The assault occurred right outside Frankton School, leading the primary school to go into lockdown shortly after 9am.<\/p>\n
“Frankton School has gone into lockdown because of a fight outside school,” a statement posted to Facebook said.<\/p>\n
“Please do not come to the school or phone the school as you will not be attended to and this may cause disruption to the management of this incident and could potentially place yourselves and\/or our staff and student\u2019s safety at risk.”<\/p>\n
Around 45 minutes later, principal Kirsten Ratana said the school had come out of lockdown, thanking students and staff for responding “extremely well”.<\/p>\n
