Thompson jokingly added, \u201cHow do I not drown?\u201d<\/p>\n

No Pressure From the Books<\/p>\n

While longtime readers of Quinn\u2019s novels had high expectations, Thompson said he didn\u2019t feel weighed down by fan pressure.<\/p>\n

\u201cBridgerton is absolutely a show that wants to meet the fans where they are,\u201d Thompson explained. \u201cBut it\u2019s also a show that\u2019s trying to surprise people and bring them where they don\u2019t expect. I don\u2019t feel that pressure because it\u2019s not our job to deliver what people want. Our job is just to tell this story in the way that we can.\u201d<\/p>\n

That mindset may be exactly why the scene feels so natural. Instead of trying to copy the book word-for-word, the actors focused on telling the emotional truth of Benedict and Sophie\u2019s relationship.<\/p>\n
