{"id":307004,"date":"2026-02-28T20:46:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-28T20:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/307004\/"},"modified":"2026-02-28T20:46:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T20:46:09","slug":"bridgertons-luke-thompson-yerin-ha-say-their-not-thirst-trap-puppets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/307004\/","title":{"rendered":"Bridgerton&#8217;s Luke Thompson, Yerin Ha Say Their &#8216;Not Thirst Trap Puppets&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t[This story contains major spoilers from\u00a0Bridgerton\u00a0season four, Part 2.]<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBenedict (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/luke-thompson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_luke-thompson_1\" data-tag=\"luke-thompson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Luke Thompson<\/a>) and Sophie (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/yerin-ha\/\" id=\"auto-tag_yerin-ha_1\" data-tag=\"yerin-ha\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yerin Ha<\/a>) may have finally<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/bridgerton-season-4-part-2-ending-benedict-sophie-interview-1236513037\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/bridgerton-season-4-part-2-ending-benedict-sophie-interview-1236513037\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> found their happily ever after <\/a>in Bridgerton season four, but it wasn\u2019t without plenty of hurdles and setbacks that come with any fairytale story.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn Part 2 alone, while also trying to figure out how to make their relationship work within society \u2014 as Sophie is a maid and Benedict is a nobleman \u2014 Sophie is also dealing with Araminta\u2019s (Katie Leung) vendetta against her, trying to throw her in prison forever, and Benedict is contemplating leaving his family and society so he can be with his one true love.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBut thanks to Lady Violet Bridgerton\u2019s (Ruth Gemmell) masterful plan, Benedict and Sophie make it down the aisle legally (if you caught that post-credits scene) by the end, along with a few highly anticipated spicy scenes along the way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThompson tells The Hollywood Reporter that it was important for them to \u201cdeliver something real\u201d for Benedict and Sophie\u2019s intimate scenes, \u201cbecause we\u2019re not thirst trap puppets.\u201d Below, Thompson and Ha break down Part 2, including the chaos with Araminta (Katie Leung), filming those spicy scenes and their thoughts on the new Lady Whistledown mystery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t***<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThis season centers on a love story between two people who\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0be accepted by society\u2019s views. What did you love most about bringing this type of\u00a0love\u00a0story to the show in a\u00a0Cinderella-esque\u00a0way?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLUKE THOMPSON I love how the tensions of what can and can\u2019t happen, both because of internal and external blocks, really undoes Benedict. From my point of view, it was really nice to watch a character like that get completely torn to pieces a little bit. I think that\u2019s fun. It\u2019s a nice thing to experience from an actor\u2019s point of view.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tYERIN HA And how much your character can change you internally, and make you really face your internal obstacles and actually have to deal with them. That was really fun to play.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-hollywoodreporter-2021\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Bridgerton-season-4-still-2-publicity-H-2026.png\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"730\" width=\"1296\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tYerin Ha and Luke Thompson in season four.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNetflix<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBenedict was really going through it in Part 2,\u00a0between\u00a0trying to decide if\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0going to leave his family and move to the countryside with Sophie or figure out another way. What was your reaction\u00a0when you first read that Benedict was willing to lose his family\u00a0for\u00a0love? Did you agree?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTHOMPSON It\u2019s not really about agreeing with it or not. Symbolically, you always have to hold onto your family a little less tightly if you\u2019re going to begin a family with someone else. That\u2019s what\u2019s quite poignant about that relationship, that meeting someone is your little doorway out of the family unit. And it\u2019s particularly poignant with a family united by grief, by losing the dad. Everyone\u2019s held onto each other a little bit more closely, and Benedict particularly. Everyone\u2019s reacted to that differently, but Benedict\u2019s response seems to have been to become some sort of glue to the family and keeping them very close. That\u2019s the journey, isn\u2019t it? You have to learn to let go a little bit if you\u2019re going to change and start a story with someone else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIt was also really intense when\u00a0Araminta had Sophie\u00a0arrested and thrown in\u00a0a\u00a0jail cell, and\u00a0almost\u00a0put on trial.\u00a0What was it like filming those\u00a0more intense scenes in Part 2?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHA We\u2019ve never seen a Bridgeton jail before. I was like, \u201cHow dark are we going?\u201d I really did have to lean on the directors, and when you are working with a great script and a great cast member like Katie, who really does make you feel immense fear, I think you\u2019re just able to play on the day,. It\u2019s fun to play those scenes and explore that part of Sophie, and to go deep into that narrative that we\u2019ve never really seen Bridgeton tackle before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThere are\u00a0also more\u00a0intimate\u00a0scenes in Part 2,\u00a0including the bathtub\u00a0scene from the book. How did you work\u00a0with the\u00a0intimacy\u00a0coordinator to bring those scenes to life?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHA A lot of choreography. There were so many logistical things we had to contend with and problem-solve, from slippery, oily water to a long bathtub for a 5-foot-2 girl to twisting and turning away (laughs). It was genuinely like choreography. And actually, when you have those logistical things that you have to overcome, it\u2019s kind of more fun.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTHOMPSON Seven hours in a bathtub \u2026 it\u2019s not for the faint-hearted (laughs).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHA [You become] a prune.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTHOMPSON With those scenes, the thing to really hold at bay, for me anyway, is that sort of pressure of, Oh, it\u2019s this kind of scene and we need to deliver this kind of thing so that people need to be excited or whatever. I think that\u2019s not really your job. Your job is to just live the scene. Lizzy [Talbot], the intimacy coordinator, enables you to do that. She puts you straight in the scene rather than standing there thinking, Are people going to enjoy this? You can\u2019t really control that, so you have to keep that side of things at bay because we\u2019re not thirst trap puppets. We try and deliver something real, the story of it.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-hollywoodreporter-2021\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Bridgerton-season-4-still-3-publicity-H-2026.png\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"730\" width=\"1296\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tLuke Thompson and Yerin Ha in season four.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNetflix<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn the end,\u00a0Sophie and Benedict\u00a0thankfully end up together, but even if Araminta didn\u2019t agree to Violet\u2019s plan, do you think the Queen would have\u00a0potentially\u00a0let Benedict marry a\u00a0maid?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTHOMPSON I like the narrative beat that there is a little fudge on the truth because it\u2019s nice in the same way that Benedict, through being with Sophie, has found his weight, his seriousness and being in touch with reality. I think it\u2019s nice that Sophie retains this little secret, this little bit of fantasy with that fudge on the truth at the end. The symmetry of that. But it wouldn\u2019t be a good ending, wouldn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHA I like to think for the happy ending sake that she would still say yes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAlso,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0a new mystery\u00a0Lady Whistledown. Who do\u00a0each of you\u00a0think it is?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHA No clue. It really could be anyone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTHOMPSON It could be anyone. All bets are off. I don\u2019t have any inkling at all. I think they\u2019ve written it specifically for that, because we only get a little taste of this new voice until we get further on into the next season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThough season five\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0be focused on\u00a0Benedict and Sophie, what do you hope for your characters next season, post-wedding?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTHOMPSON I don\u2019t know. We\u2019ll see. That\u2019s beyond my pay grade. It\u2019d be nice to see them have kids, and just be a part of the family as well.
