The passage of time was already written in the walls, so our role was to work with that story rather than erase it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2301109 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/lionel-jadot-jam-hotel-ghent-interiors_dezeen_2364_col_3-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Old roof timber flooring in the bar\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Old roof timber that was repurposed as flooring and to form the hotel&#8217;s bar<\/p>\n<p>The initial stage of the project involved stripping away additions such as false ceilings and cladding materials that had been added when the building was converted for use as a military office.<\/p>\n<p>The demolition process revealed the building&#8217;s original structure, along with layers of paint, plaster and brick that were retained to highlight the passage of time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2301221 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/ateliers.0Ajam-ghent-hotel-lionel-jadot-interior-design_dezeen_2364_col_11-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Reclaimed materials in the living room space\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Duplex Studio created simple wooden furniture for the interior<\/p>\n<p>Materials salvaged during this phase were reused throughout the project, with old roof timber repurposed as flooring and cladding for the hotel&#8217;s bar.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The building itself became a gisement de mat\u00e9riaux d\u00e9laiss\u00e9, a deposit of abandoned materials ready to be reactivated rather than replaced,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Among the local designers and makers who contributed pieces for the interior is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.duplexstudio.be\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Duplex Studio<\/a>, which created simple wooden furniture used throughout the guest rooms and public areas.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2301152 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/jam-ghent-hotel-lionel-jadot-interior-design_dezeen_2364_col_16-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Lionel Jadot-designed bedroom at the Jam Hotel\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>More than 40 designers, makers and artists were involved in shaping the interiors<\/p>\n<p>Based on the idea of a constantly evolving atelier, <a href=\"https:\/\/openstructures.net\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OpenStructures<\/a> developed a modular, reconfigurable system for the guest beds that allows them to be disassembled and reused in alternative ways in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Local designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pierreemmanuelvandeputte.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pierre Emmanuel Vandeputte<\/a> developed furniture using reclaimed boards sourced from an old school in Ghent, while industrial shelving sourced through salvage specialist <a href=\"https:\/\/rotordc.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rotor Deconstruction<\/a> was repurposed throughout the hotel.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2300835 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/jam-hotel-ghent-lionel-jadot-interior_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"Jam Hotel entrance\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>The entrance leads into a reception space<\/p>\n<p>The redesigned interior aims to create what the architects described as a &#8220;porous&#8221; Jadot said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2301153 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/ghent-hotel-lionel-jadot-interior-design_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"Jam Hotel\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Jam Hotel includes a rooftop with city views<\/p>\n<p>The interior architect set up his eponymous studio on the heels of founding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaventemateliers.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zaventem Ateliers<\/a>, a workspace based in a repurposed paper factory near Brussels that is home to 26 independent ateliers.<\/p>\n<p>Jadot&#8217;s multidisciplinary work focuses on reimagining spaces and objects by using what already exists.
