Season seven may have ended with a shocking cliffhanger, but showrunner Matthew B. Grab a box of tissues \u2013 it\u2019s finally time to say farewell.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Nobody Against Putin (DocPlay, March 2)<\/p>\n<p>Taking home Best Documentary at the BAFTAs, Mr Nobody Against Putin follows co-director Pavel Talankin at a primary school in Karabash, a poor mining town that subsists in the shadows of the Urals. In the wake of Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, the school\u2019s videographer Talankin finds himself at odds with Putin\u2019s newly implemented \u201cpatriotic education policy,\u201d so he decides to covertly document how the war is transforming classrooms. Described as an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2025\/jan\/25\/mr-nobody-against-putin-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">indelible document of ideological warfare that echoes far beyond Russia<\/a>,\u201d Mr Nobody Against Putin is a harrowing and heartbreaking watch.<\/p>\n<p>May December (M\u0100ORI+, March 8)<\/p>\n<p>Loosely based on the scandalous story of Mary Kay Letourneau, the Oscar-nominated May December stars Natalie Portman as Elizabeth Berry, an actress who travels to the bayous of Georgia to meet Julianne Moore\u2019s Gracie Atherton-Yoo, a sex offender she is set to play in an upcoming indie film. Helmed by the uncompromising director Todd Haynes, this disarming black comedy is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/article\/best-movies-of-2023-films.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u201ca brilliant ode to female toxicity that begins at a place of camp and ends at one that\u2019s closer to horror\u201d<\/a>.\u00a0Destined to become a modern classic, May December will leave your skin crawling.<\/p>\n<p>DTF St. Louis (Neon, March 2)<\/p>\n<p>In this HBO miniseries, Jason Bateman, David Harbour and Linda Cardellini are three middle-aged St. Louis locals whose struggles with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/story\/jason-bateman-david-harbour-and-linda-cardellini-enter-a-deadly-love-triangle-in-dtf-st-louis?srsltid=AfmBOopLjAoEw7tf8ySxKwsgb5GuiwKgh1cFU9g0VmioqLacSVs3TllZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u201cennui, loneliness, and hidden desires\u201d<\/a> spiral into a love triangle that ends in murder. DTF St. Louis \u2013 which ironically echoes the scandal that ended Harbour\u2019s marriage to pop star Lily Allen \u2013 also features Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins and Wednesday star Joy Sunday as the oddball detective duo tasked with solving the salacious murder.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nouvelle Vague (AroVision, March 4)<\/p>\n<p>Receiving 10 nominations at the 51st C\u00e9sar Awards, Nouvelle Vague is the latest outing from the legendary Richard Linklater. Detailing the making of Jean-Luc Godard\u2019s Breathless, the film that announced the arrival of the radical French New Wave, Guillaume Marbeck plays the garrulous Godard and Zoey Deutch as the dazzling Jean Seberg. Together they star in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/culture\/the-current-cinema\/all-the-films-in-competition-at-cannes-2025-ranked-from-best-to-worst\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u201cwittily engrossing and ultra-disciplined execution of a conceit\u201d<\/a>\u00a0that will be catnip for cinephiles, but accessible enough for casual film fans.<\/p>\n<p>Pick of the Flicks: Orwell: 2+2=5 (DocPlay, March 2)<\/p>\n<p>Premiering at Cannes, and helmed by the Oscar-nominated Raoul Peck, Orwell: 2+2=5 traces the career of the prophetic George Orwell, spotlighting how his observations on 20th-century totalitarianism still ring true.
