Apple has asked Google to look into \u201csetting up servers\u201d for a new version of Siri that\u2019s Gemini-powered and meets Apple\u2019s privacy requirements, The Information reports<\/a>. Apple had already announced in January<\/a> that Google\u2019s Gemini AI models would help power the upgraded version of Siri it delayed last year<\/a>, but The Information\u2019s report indicates Apple might lean even more on Google so it can catch up in AI.<\/p>\n

The original partnership announcement said that<\/a> \u201cthe next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google\u2019s Gemini models and cloud technology,\u201d and that the models would \u201chelp power future Apple Intelligence features,\u201d including \u201ca more personalized Siri.\u201d While the announcement noted that Apple Intelligence would \u201ccontinue to run on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute,\u201d it didn\u2019t specify if the new Siri would run on Google\u2019s cloud.<\/p>\n

Much of The Information\u2019s article also dives deep into the history of Apple\u2019s own cloud computing and data center efforts. As noted in the report, Apple has generally been more conservative in its infrastructure spending, especially compared to rivals like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon, which are making massive investments<\/a> to meet the needs of AI demand.
