\n\tFans of the Naked Gun<\/a> franchise may need to brew some coffee and stay patient before finding out if Police Squad will soon tackle another case.<\/p>\n

\n\tDirector Akiva Schaffer<\/a>\u2018s feature reboot The Naked Gun<\/a> hit theaters last summer from Paramount Pictures<\/a> and starred Liam Neeson<\/a>, Pamela Anderson<\/a> and Paul Walter Hauser<\/a>. This marked the fourth entry in the film series that kicked off with Leslie Nielsen starring as detective Frank Drebin in director\u00a0David Zucker<\/a>\u2018s original 1988 movie after the character originated on ABC\u2019s Police Squad!<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter to promote Thursday\u2019s launch for the second season of Peacock<\/a> series Ted<\/a>, Seth MacFarlane<\/a> \u2014 who produced last year\u2019s The Naked Gun through his Fuzzy Door<\/a> banner \u2014 weighed in on the chances for a potential sequel in which Neeson would reprise his role as Frank Drebin Jr. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI know everyone would love to, including Liam,\u201d MacFarlane says. \u201cWe have not heard anything yet. I think it\u2019s all up to Paramount.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe reboot of The Naked Gun hit theaters last August and collected $102 million at the global box office. Prior to its release, the film was watched closely as a possible referendum on whether audiences would support comedy features \u2014 and spoof movies in particular \u2014 given that those types of projects have not been as prevalent in theaters as they were decades ago. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn a conversation with THR<\/a> timed to the 2025 film\u2019s release, screenwriters Dan Gregor and Doug Mand said that they had begun making notes with ideas for a potential follow-up. \u201cDan and I have notebooks already that we\u2019re already starting to just jot down ideas on,\u201d Mand said. \u201cAkiva is the same way, to a degree.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing the film\u2019s release, producer Erica Huggins told THR<\/a> that there had been talks among the project\u2019s team about a possible sequel: \u201cAkiva and Dan and Doug, our writers \u2014 we\u2019re all talking about it.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tWhen asked earlier this year about the prospects of a sequel, Schaffer told CBR<\/a>, \u201cWe are not planning another,\u201d but noted that some ideas had previously been discussed. The director also pointed out that Skydance Media\u2019s acquisition of Paramount Global getting finalized days after the release<\/a> of The Naked Gun could potentially complicate the path for a sequel: \u201c[The merger] was about seven days after the movie came out, and so we\u2019re waiting to see if they would want it.\u201d <\/p>\n
