Vince Gilligan<\/a> has been transparent about the fact that fans of his latest show, Pluribus<\/a>, may have to wait a good long while before the show returns for season 2<\/a>. While Apple picked up the science fiction series for a two-season deal (with the possibility of more<\/a>), Gilligan and his writers didn\u2019t start working on that second season until after the season 1 finale aired in December 2025. In interviews since, he\u2019s made it clear<\/a> we shouldn\u2019t expect the show to return until 2027 at the soonest.<\/p>\n

So when Polygon spoke to Gilligan for an article about the 25th anniversary of his X-Files spin-off The Lone Gunmen, we couldn\u2019t resist asking for an update on Pluribus season 2. Turns out, Gilligan was taking a break from the writing process to talk to us. (Sorry, folks.)<\/p>\n

“I can tell you you’re catching me here in our offices,\u201d Gilligan said. \u201cWe’re plugging away on it. I’m taking a little bit longer lunch break than usual to talk to you, which I’m enjoying doing. We are breaking the season. It is not going quite as fast as I would hope, but we’re hoping there’s lots more excitement and twists and turns. And I think we got some dramatic stuff coming up in season 2.\u201d<\/p>\n

While he couldn\u2019t reveal any plot details, he did offer a few hints at which characters from season 1 could get an even bigger role in season 2, particularly fan-favorite Koumba Diabat\u00e9<\/a> (Samba Schutte).<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, I can’t give away any details, but we’re looking forward to spending more time with some characters that we’ve met and didn’t get to spend a whole lot of time with. I’d love to see more of Mr. Diabat\u00e9, for instance, and seeing more of Zosia [Karolina Wydra] and Manousos [Carlos Manuel Vesga] is always going to be a treat for us and for the audience. And of course, Carol remains front and center in our show, played by the great Rhea Seehorn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finally, Gilligan offered a tongue-in-cheek prediction for when Pluribus season 2 might actually arrive.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’ve got plenty of fun stuff coming up for all four of [these characters], and we’re looking forward to people seeing it in eight or nine years when we get season 2 finished.”<\/p>\n

Ha ha, very funny. You\u2019re joking, right, Vince? Right?!?<\/p>\n
