Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling made their first joint public appearance in over 10 years, and it was all thanks to a birthday surprise on \u201cThe Tonight Show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gosling stopped by Jimmy Fallon\u2019s late night show Thursday evening to promote his new movie, \u201cProject Hail Mary,\u201d but took a moment away from talking about the film to honor his wife\u2019s birthday.<\/p>\n

Specifically, the \u201cBarbie\u201d actor asked the audience if they\u2019d be willing to sing \u201cHappy Birthday\u201d to Mendes, who turned 52 on Thursday. After the studio audience erupted into cheers, a camera cut to Mendes backstage and followed her as she made her way to the \u201cTonight Show\u201d main stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere\u2019s the thing, you might find me in the Hudson River tomorrow,\u201d Gosling quipped, likely due to the fact that the couple is notoriously private. <\/p>\n

However, Mendes happily made her way into the studio, where she took a moment to shout out teachers who were in the audience. (For those wondering, Gosling plays a science teacher-turned-reluctant astronaut in \u201cProject Hail Mary.\u201d)<\/p>\n

\u201cI do love teachers so much,\u201d she said while taking center stage. \u201cWe owe so much to you guys \u2026 I had so many amazing teachers mentor me and I just want to say thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Mendes\u2019 tribute was very kind, Fallon stepped in and reminded her that this moment was all about her, adding, \u201cThis is your day. This is your birthday!\u201d Gosling cemented this point by inviting New Jersey\u2019s North Bergen High School marching band to come out and play \u201cHappy Birthday\u201d to Mendes. The joint \u201cTonight Show\u201d appearance came 13 years after Gosling and Mendes\u2019 last public outing together, which was the New York City premiere for their movie, \u201cThe Place Beyond The Pines.\u201d <\/p>\n

The pair actually met in 2011 while filming the crime drama, though, they\u2019ve since chosen to keep their relationship mostly out of the spotlight.<\/p>\n

They share two children together, Esmeralda and Amada.<\/p>\n
