{"id":316435,"date":"2026-03-06T19:17:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T19:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/316435\/"},"modified":"2026-03-06T19:17:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T19:17:09","slug":"measles-cases-on-the-rise-in-north-london-ukhsa-data-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/316435\/","title":{"rendered":"Measles cases on the rise in north London, UKHSA data shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The NCL ICB is responsible for co-ordinating NHS services across Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden and Islington.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Its chief medical officer Dr Jo Sauvage said: &#8220;Measles resurges when vaccination rates fall, but this is something we can turn around.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The vaccine is safe and effective, and by boosting uptake quickly we can prevent further outbreaks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The outbreak continues to hit London the hardest, with 65% of the 195 total number of cases in England this year occurring in the capital. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The vast majority of infections are affecting children aged 10 or younger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It is not clear where the other 43 cases in London have been identified, as the UKHSA only publishes specific information on boroughs with ten or more reported cases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Outside the capital, Birmingham has had the highest recorded outbreak, now reaching 32 cases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The UKHSA said reported figures were &#8220;likely to underestimate&#8221; the actual number of infections, especially over the past month &#8211;  due to lags in cases being reported.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The NCL ICB is responsible for co-ordinating NHS services across Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden and Islington.
