Health NZ encouraged people\u202fto\u202fcheck their website for updates and follow the\u202fadvice\u202ffor\u202fclose or casual contacts, and to\u202fmonitor\u202ffor symptoms of measles.<\/p>\n

These include a runny nose, fever, cough, sore watery pink eyes, and a rash that develops a few days after the fever.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fever is still present and high (at least 38C) at the time the rash first appears,\u201d Health NZ said.<\/p>\n

Getting immunised with two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine after the age of 12 months is the best form of protection against measles, according to the health agency.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis latest case is a further reminder for everyone to check if you and your wh\u0101nau are immune to measles,\u201d Health NZ said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt highlights New Zealand\u2019s ongoing vulnerability to further outbreaks, especially related to overseas travel and our low immunisation rates.\u201d<\/p>\n

It said MMR was safe and \u201cvery effective\u201d in preventing measles.<\/p>\n

It was free in New Zealand for all children aged under 18, regardless of immigration status, and for adults 18 and over who are eligible for publicly funded healthcare.<\/p>\n

This included all citizens and permanent residents, Health NZ said.<\/p>\n
