{"id":322146,"date":"2026-03-10T08:47:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T08:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/322146\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T08:47:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T08:47:08","slug":"new-zealand-avocados-find-growth-in-asia-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/322146\/","title":{"rendered":"New Zealand avocados find growth in Asia | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New Zealand\u2019s avocado industry managed to grow shipments to a range of Asian markets despite overall export volumes slightly dropping for the 2025\/26 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"picture\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/146281_greenhassavocadoscloseupadobestock_536226.jpg\"  loading=\"eager\" class=\"lazyloaded\" width=\"2298\" height=\"1532\"\/><\/p>\n<p>According to a report from SunLive, the industry managed to navigate a stormy spring and summer and ship\u00a03.4mn trays \u2013 including nearly 150,000 Class 3 and 3 trays \u2013 across the export season, which runs from August to February.<\/p>\n<p>Brad Siebert, CEO of New Zealand Avocado told\u00a0SunLive said Australia was the top export destination with\u00a0750,000 trays, followed by Korea which saw volumes increase 70 per cent year on year to\u00a0625,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite multiple wind events and tight market windows, this represents only a nine per cent decrease on last season\u2019s export volume,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina, Hong Kong and India all nearly doubled their previous year\u2019s shipments, while Taiwan increased by 50 per cent, where New Zealand continues to benefit from a period of seasonal exclusivity.\u00a0These gains across Asia reinforce the importance of strong and consistent importer relationships.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Canada was the industry\u2019s fourth-largest market, taking 283,000 trays and\u00a0Siebert said efforts were being made to develop other smaller markets. A total of\u00a043,000 trays were sent to the US, where extended South American supply impacted New Zealand\u2019s window this season.
