Tsvetanov)<\/p>\n<p id=\"14192ae5-b674-4ca3-89e1-43353f5c754d\">Two powerful space telescopes turned their gaze onto the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/stargazing\/astrophotography\/amateur-astronomer-captures-ghostly-outer-shell-of-the-cats-eye-nebula-photo\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/stargazing\/astrophotography\/amateur-astronomer-captures-ghostly-outer-shell-of-the-cats-eye-nebula-photo\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/stargazing\/astrophotography\/amateur-astronomer-captures-ghostly-outer-shell-of-the-cats-eye-nebula-photo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cat&#8217;s Eye Nebula<\/a>, a planetary nebula 4,400 <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/light-year.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/light-year.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/light-year.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">light-years<\/a> away from Earth in the constellation Draco. The new images reveal stunning details about what happens as a star approaches the end of its evolutionary life cycle.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-3e53da24-be1d-435c-910a-dd09c2cf5e09\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/>What is it?<\/p>\n<p id=\"827a69fb-d408-4863-90e3-cb1cfee20781\">The Cat&#8217;s Eye Nebula is known as a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronomy\/james-webb-space-telescope\/jwst-sees-beauty-in-the-death-of-a-star-offers-a-preview-of-whats-in-store-for-our-sun\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronomy\/james-webb-space-telescope\/jwst-sees-beauty-in-the-death-of-a-star-offers-a-preview-of-whats-in-store-for-our-sun\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronomy\/james-webb-space-telescope\/jwst-sees-beauty-in-the-death-of-a-star-offers-a-preview-of-whats-in-store-for-our-sun\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">planetary nebula<\/a>, but that name is somewhat misleading, as these clouds of ionized gas don&#8217;t have anything to do with planets. These nebulas appeared spherical through early telescopes, prompting astronomers to believe they might be similar to the gas giants in our solar system.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we know these colorful objects are massive shells of gas emitted by <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/57-stars-formation-classification-and-constellations.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/57-stars-formation-classification-and-constellations.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/57-stars-formation-classification-and-constellations.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stars<\/a> in their final stages. When stars begin to run out of hydrogen, the fuel needed for nuclear fusion, the outward pressure of fusion decreases, causing the stars&#8217; gaseous outer layers to contract. Tsvetanov)<a id=\"elk-f11a5173-d524-4b8b-be4d-6bfcde144566\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/>Why is it amazing?<a id=\"elk-seasonal\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"5982317d-2e09-4cbf-b9a8-068f12b8846a-0\">The combined observations of the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/36195-euclid-esa-facts.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/36195-euclid-esa-facts.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/36195-euclid-esa-facts.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Euclid<\/a> and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15892-hubble-space-telescope.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15892-hubble-space-telescope.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15892-hubble-space-telescope.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hubble<\/a> space telescopes help &#8220;reveal the remarkable complexity of stellar death in this object,&#8221; NASA wrote in a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/missions\/hubble\/two-observatories-one-cosmic-eye-hubble-and-euclid-view-cats-eye-nebula\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/missions\/hubble\/two-observatories-one-cosmic-eye-hubble-and-euclid-view-cats-eye-nebula\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">statement<\/a> accompanying the image. While Hubble was able to zoom in for a close-up of the central shell of the nebula, Euclid captured a wider view that reveals a larger halo of gases expanding outward into space.
