Cars and trailers lined the streets as people explored the offerings, from books and toys to furniture and household goods, stopping to chat while browsing the free finds.<\/p>\n

Anthony Beachen, who moved to the district from Napier a year ago, said the event highlighted the strong sense of community in Central Hawke\u2019s Bay.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou never really see things like this in town. The community here is way better, a lot friendlier and closer together,\u201d Beachen said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a really cool environment to be part of.\u201d<\/p>\n
His flatmate Liam Fontaine agreed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just a lovely community, everyone is kind, everyone knows each other, and people look out for each other,\u201d Fontaine said.<\/p>\n
Marie and Ron Garnham, who registered their Nelson St property in Waipukurau, said they were happy to take part again.<\/p>\n
They said it was brilliant, as people can get rid of stuff they don\u2019t need anymore and others can still get good use out of it.<\/p>\n
Martin Eagle was among those who made some unique discoveries.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople get rid of stuff and others get things you don\u2019t see in shops these days.\u201d<\/p>\n
Eagle said he was able to pick up a CD holder on Nelson St.<\/p>\n
\u201cWho sells CD holders nowadays?\u201d<\/p>\n
Nae Hammond made the trip from Hastings to join the treasure hunt.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great initiative and a great community event. There\u2019s always good treasure hunting,\u201d Hammond said. <\/p>\n
Families also made the most of the day out together. <\/p>\n
Marni Perenikowallacepeeti was proud of her finds, including bean bags and clothes, while her mum Charris Perenikowallacepeeti said the event had been a fun way to explore their new community. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve just moved here from Manawat\u016b. I saw the event advertised but didn\u2019t think much of it until I drove into town this morning and saw all the driveways and thought that\u2019s cool stuff. It\u2019s been great to get out and about and see the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Bibby St in Waipawa, Liam Patterson and apprentice builder Ra Davenport loaded a trailer with items for Davenport\u2019s new house.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been awesome,\u201d Patterson said. <\/p>\n
