India\u2019s all-conquering men\u2019s cricket team will pocket $23.5 million (US$14m) after lifting the Twenty20 World Cup for a record third time, the country\u2019s cricket board said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\n The co-hosts and pre-tournament favourites swept aside New Zealand by 96 runs in Sunday\u2019s final in Ahmedabad to become the first team
\n to retain the trophy and the first to win it on home soil.\n <\/p>\n

Cricket commands an unrivalled following in the world\u2019s most populous country, with top players enjoying star status and the game serving as a rare unifying force in an otherwise diverse nation.<\/p>\n

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the world\u2019s richest and most powerful cricket body, praised the players, support staff and selectors for the \u201chistoric achievement\u201d as it announced the cash reward.<\/p>\n
