{"id":327536,"date":"2026-03-13T10:12:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T10:12:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/327536\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T10:12:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T10:12:08","slug":"new-sheep-sculptures-unveiled-in-shipley-public-square","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/327536\/","title":{"rendered":"New sheep sculptures unveiled in Shipley public square"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The limestone sculptures have been installed in Shipley Market Square as part of a wider regeneration project and were hand-carved by Yorkshire sculptor Dan Jones.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr Jones said: &#8220;The ram, ewes and lambs were designed, hand carved and polished in my Yorkshire workshop.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;They took around three months to carve and install.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;It was really special to be able to capture something with such meaning to mark a new chapter for the market square.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I hope the sculptures will be enjoyed \u2013 and played upon \u2013 by generations to come.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The sheep reference the town\u2019s name, which is derived from the Old English meaning &#8220;sheep pasture.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The sculptures replace the damaged &#8220;Shipley shopper&#8221; artwork and sit alongside recent landscaping improvements.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The planting on Well Croft includes a mixed shrub and herbaceous bed, with a wildflower grass meadow around the sheep installation.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council\u2019s portfolio holder for regeneration, transport and planning, said: &#8220;Dan\u2019s work really caught our attention \u2013 it is beautifully made and is robust, yet tactile.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The market square redevelopment has been delivered by Bradford Council using \u00a33m acquired through the Government-funded Shipley Towns Fund and a further \u00a31m from Streets for People funding from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The limestone sculptures have been installed in Shipley Market Square as part of a wider regeneration project and&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":327537,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[31],"tags":[442,498,499,500,501,156,111,139,69],"class_list":["post-327536","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-arts-and-design","tag-arts","tag-arts-and-design","tag-artsanddesign","tag-artsdesign","tag-design","tag-entertainment","tag-new-zealand","tag-newzealand","tag-nz"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/327536","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=327536"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/327536\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/327537"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=327536"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=327536"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=327536"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
