Last month, Scrubs returned to our screens after 16 years away, reminding us all how much we missed JD, Turk, Elliot and even Dr Cox. The beloved medical sitcom was revived by ABC for a nine episode season, which served as the series’ 10th overall.<\/p>\n

The final episode in the latest season<\/a> won’t air until next month (15 April), but fans of the classic series are already wondering if we’ll be visiting Sacred Heart Hospital again in the future.<\/p>\n

Now, speaking about the show’s future to Deadline<\/a>, series creator Bill Lawrence said: “We\u2019re all crossing our fingers that they let us do a whole bunch more, but we\u2019re really hopeful.”<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m so happy and grateful that anybody still cares about that show,” he added. “I love the people that are in it so much… I think the goal of that show was to not be a reboot but a revival and to keep it going with the next wave of characters.”<\/p>\n

Lawrence has plenty of reason to be optimistic about the show’s future, with Disney revealing earlier this month<\/a> that the season premiere had attracted 11.4 million viewers in the first five days since its launch.<\/p>\n

The revival was a big hit with fans and holds a 94% Fresh rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>. Critics were also pleasantly surprised<\/a>, with its approval rating standing at 90% from 41 reviews.<\/p>\n

Decider<\/a> wrote of the series: “The return of Scrubs works because it acknowledges that its characters have changed with age, and while it struggles to integrate its new generation of characters, there\u2019s still more than enough laughs to satisfy the original\u2019s most ardent fans.”<\/p>\n

“The reboot has arrived at a time when warmth and optimism are precious commodities,” noted Slant Magazine<\/a>, while The Guardian<\/a> wrote: “Somehow these two poles – deliberately silly comedy and volcanic fury – manage to blend into a show that\u2019s just as watchable as it ever was.” <\/p>\n

“It may take a minute to get there, but in the end, this reboot nails the brief: it is familiar, nostalgic and it is difficult to watch it with anything other than a great deal of fondness,” opined The Financial Times<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Scrubs streams on Disney+<\/a> in the UK, and Hulu<\/a> and ABC in the US.
