\u201cThey\u2019re just mad you left out jazz,\u201d he joked, referencing controversial comments Chalamet made during a Variety\/CNN town hall event this month.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t want to be working in ballet or opera, or things where it\u2019s like, \u2018Hey, keep this thing alive\u2019, even though it\u2019s like, no one cares about this anymore,\u201d the actor said.<\/p>\n
The remarks drew backlash from the arts community, accusing Chalamet of being out of touch.<\/p>\n
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Two People Exchanging Saliva director Alexandre Singh also took aim at Chalamet during today\u2019s ceremony.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe it takes 10 years\u2019 time, but we can change society through art, through creativity, through theatre and ballet… and also cinema,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Nominated alongside Chalamet and Jordan were Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent.<\/p>\n
The Daily Mail reported Jordan was tearful as he accepted his Oscar, thanking everyone for \u201csupporting me over my career\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know you guys want me to do well, and I want to do that because you guys bet on me, so thank you for keeping betting on me.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I\u2019m going to keep stepping up and I\u2019m going to keep being the best version of myself I can be.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chalamet was previously nominated in 2018 for Call Me By Your Name, and last year for A Complete Unknown.<\/p>\n
