For fans of Netflix’s Bridgerton, the world of Regency-era romance, scandal, and sweeping family drama has always been a feast for the senses. From the glittering ballrooms to the tangled webs of love, every season has given audiences a reason to swoon, gasp, and binge.

But after four incredible seasons, one question has lingered in the minds of fans. What comes next? Could there be another story waiting to be told within this lush, opulent universe? The answer, it seems, might finally be “yes.” In the past, we’ve seen the Bridgerton universe expand. Remember the highly successful period drama Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story?

That prequel spinoff not only delighted fans with its lavish costumes, grandiose sets, and enchanting romance, but it also proved that audiences were eager to explore the lives of characters beyond the central Bridgerton siblings. Now, the latest whispers from Shonda Rhimes herself suggest that another beloved character could be stepping into the spotlight soon in their own spinoff.

Shonda Rhimes hints at potential Violet Bridgerton spinoff"Bridgerton

Shonda Rhimes, who serves as an executive producer on Bridgerton, was recently a guest on the Glass Half Full with Craig Melvin podcast and teased that a spinoff focusing on none other than Violet Bridgerton could be a possibility. While this is not confirmation, it hints at an exciting new chapter in the Bridgerton universe and has fans eagerly imagining what a story centered on Violet could look like.

“I’ve always said that I thought if we were going to do something like that, Violet would be a great person to tell the story about. That’s a possibility.”

Played by the amazingly talented Ruth Gemmell, Violet Bridgerton has always been the heart and guiding force of the Bridgerton family. While audiences have long admired her wisdom and strength, we had just begun to scratch the surface of her romantic life when she met Lord Anderson (Daniel Francis) in the third season. Things started off great between the two at the beginning of Bridgerton season 4, but as the season unfolded, their romance quickly became complicated.

While they shared tender, heartfelt moments, the sudden death of John Stirling (Victor Alli) cast a shadow over Violet’s happiness. This left her unsure whether to reveal her engagement to her children. By the finale ball, Violet came to a powerful realization. In focusing so much on her family, she had lost touch with her own identity and the carefree woman she once was.

Craving independence and the chance to rediscover herself, she recognized that her desires didn’t fully align with Lord Anderson’s vision of partnership. Acknowledging this difference, the couple then made the respectful decision to part ways. However, who’s to say they won’t eventually find their way back to each other? Perhaps this is what a Violet spinoff could explore.

Rhimes didn’t state in her interview if a potential Violet spinoff would be a prequel or set after the events of season 4, leaving the possibilities wide open. It could delve into her past, revealing untold stories of her youth, her early romance with Edmund, and the experiences that shaped her into the strong, wise matriarch fans know and love.

Alternatively, it could pick up after her split with Lord Anderson, exploring her journey of self-discovery, independence, and the challenges of navigating love and society on her own terms. Either way, a Violet-centered series would give audiences a deeper, more intimate look at a character who has long been the emotional backbone of the Bridgerton family.
