Their first offering, the six-part documentary Harry & Meghan, was a smash hit, going on to become one of the platform\u2019s top-viewed documentaries.<\/p>\n
However, With Love, Meghan, Markle\u2019s docu-reality show, was savaged by critics and cancelled after two seasons.<\/p>\n
Variety claimed the show primarily became a \u201cvehicle\u201d for the Suits actor\u2019s homewares brand, As Ever.<\/p>\n
The magazine reported the show\u2019s underwhelming ratings and the couple\u2019s \u201cbedside manner\u201d, which allegedly \u201cruffled feathers\u201d during meetings, led to concerns at Netflix.<\/p>\n
It also alleged communication between the Duke and Duchess\u2019 company Archewell Productions and Netflix was poor.<\/p>\n
Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria said Archewell had been a \u201cthoughtful and collaborative partner\u201d.<\/p>\n
She said the Duke and Duchess were \u201cdeeply engaged in the storytelling process and [brought] a unique, global perspective that aligns with the kinds of impactful projects our members respond to\u201d.<\/p>\n
Chief executive Ted Sarandos was also reported to have become \u201cfed up\u201d with the couple, who allegedly refused to speak to him \u201cunless a lawyer was present on the line\u201d.<\/p>\n
A Netflix spokesperson denied Sarandos made the comment, labelling the claim \u201cabsolutely inaccurate\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Sussexes\u2019 lawyer also denied the allegation, insisting \u201cMeghan texts and speaks with Mr Sarandos regularly, and has been to his home, sans lawyers\u201d.<\/p>\n
Last week, Netflix announced it was parting ways with Markle\u2019s As Ever business.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Variety, several sources claimed US$10m worth of unsold As Ever products were left in Netflix\u2019s possession after With Love, Meghan\u2019s flagging ratings.<\/p>\n
Employees were allegedly given the unpurchased goods for free, with the products left on card tables around several office buildings.<\/p>\n
