For many of us, home is a sanctuary. Our space is a much-needed escape from the busy outside world, cocooning us in comfort; thus, we crave rooms that foster this sense of tranquility and calm. Zoe Saldana has unlocked the perfect formula to achieve serenity with a classic white, cream, and natural wood living room color palette.

We spotted the actress’s calming living room in the background of a recent Instagram post. Beginning with a base of dark wood floors, antique wooden doors, and white walls, Zoe creates a strikingly warm and serene balance. She then layers the room with sumptuous textures, including two boucle chairs and a linen cushion. A fiddle leaf fig (like this one from Amazon) adds a natural touch to the space. All together, the colors in the room feel like a breath of fresh air.

Though they may not be the most novel living room colors, Zoe’s combination is a foolproof technique to achieve a calming space. To further explore her formula, I’ve curated an edit of products to help you replicate the look in any living room. I also spoke to a range of design experts to get to the bottom of why this look works, and how we can use it in our own homes. Let’s begin with a peek inside Zoe Saldana’s space.

The neutral living room color trend seen in Zoe Saldana’s space works primarily because of its sensory qualities. From calming colors to inviting textures, it’s an emotional experience at every turn. Catharina Björkman, Scandi homes & interiors expert at Contura, explains: ‘Interior design’s newest buzzword ‘sensescaping’ is rooted in the ideas of balance and functionality – both of which are key concepts in Scandinavian interior design. Instead of focusing on pure aesthetics, it encourages us to keep all five senses – touch, taste, sight, smell, and sound – in mind when designing our homes to ensure harmony and well-being.’

Zoe Saldana’s warm whites and natural wood tones are perfect for this balance because they originate in the outdoor world.

Catharina advises: ‘When it comes to creating the perfect color palette for your home, look to nature. In a world that continues to be filled with stress and strain, decorating with neutrals is often linked to feelings of calm and peacefulness. The natural world offers a kaleidoscope of neutral colors which can provide a soothing foundation in any interior – think sandy browns, sage greens, cloudy greys, sky blues, and eggshell whites. These colors work particularly well when used across large spaces such as walls, doors, and ceilings.’

She continues: ‘A bonus is that neutral tones inspired by nature tend to be far more timeless than bold color choices – often inspired by passing trends – and are unlikely to cause a clash or contribute to a sense of misbalance to a room.’ We definitely see this longevity in Zoe Saldana’s space, which will be chic and on trend for years to come.

Though this look is utterly timeless, it’s also particularly popular right now, emerging as a major interior design trend for 2026. Magdalena Gierasinska, design expert at Barker and Stonehouse, advises: ‘We’re seeing a return in the popularity of neutrals – ranging from soft beige to chocolate brown. These shades have a calming and grounding effect on the home, making any space feel relaxed and tranquil.’

Beyond the color palette alone, the very shapes in Zoe Saldana’s living room help to create a serene feeling. This is a major factor to consider when tapping into her timeless look. Magdalena advises: ‘Curved forms and contrasting materials are defining homes this season. Think sculptural sofas and armchairs, rustic side tables, stylish bar carts, and curvaceous mirrors which bring fluidity, character, and effortless style to modern interiors.’

At the end of the day, the most important aspect of our interiors is the emotional response they provoke in us and our visitors. If you are looking for a calming space, there’s nothing better than warm neutrals.
