The documentary <\/a>follows British journalist Louis Theroux as he investigates a loosely connected, global network of online influencers, podcasters, and content creators who promote \u201cred pill\u201d ideology, ultra-masculine values, and, at times, a hateful worldview towards women.<\/p>\nTheroux says people in the manosphere have \u201cswaggering machismo that is at turns homophobic, antisemitic, and racist.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the film, Gaines, who hosts the Fresh and Fit podcast, talked about having multiple wives in the future, with his then-girlfriend, influencer Angelica Camacho, looking unimpressed. It was revealed later in the documentary that the pair had broken up.<\/p>\n
Camacho is now speaking out about the documentary, which came out March 11. In a recent TikTok video, she claimed she had asked not to be included in the Netflix project.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, I never wanted to be part of any documentary whatsoever. I was never told or asked to be in a documentary until the moment of,\u201d she said. \u201cI was stupid enough to not read a contract before signing it, and that\u2019s how I ended up in that documentary.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cI did beg the producers on email thousands of times to take me out of the documentary, but that didn\u2019t happen. And here we are. It is what it is. Never wanted to be part of it.\u201d <\/p>\n
She said that after going \u201cthrough therapy\u201d and hearing a \u201czillion pep talks,\u201d since her split from Gaines, she \u201ccouldn\u2019t be more grateful\u201d for her life now. <\/p>\n
\u201cI am so blessed, and I am so thankful to say that I am in a new relationship, where I don\u2019t have to worry about any of this,\u201d the influencer continued. \u201cI met this amazing man who cares for me, makes me feel so special, makes me so happy. And I couldn\u2019t be more grateful for him. I can finally say that I see a future with somebody.\u201d<\/p>\n
In Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere, Theroux asked Camacho how she felt about Gaines wanting\u201cone-way monogamy,\u201d where the podcaster was allowed to pursue other people, but she was not. At the time, she argued that Gaines would only be with the women he slept with for \u201cone night,\u201d which is not the way that he views her. <\/p>\n
However, Camacho looked uncomfortable when Gaines said she \u201cunderstood\u201d the fact that he wanted multiple wives in the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cUh, I don\u2019t know,\u201d she told Theroux about the topic. \u201cI think I\u2019ll see when it happens. I don\u2019t know how that will work.\u201d <\/p>\n
Theroux noted that Camacho had already invested two years in the relationship, adding that the pair\u2019s differing expectations around marriage were bound to collide. Gaines insisted he would deal with it when the time came \u2014 a stance Theroux described as \u201cso avoidant.\u201d<\/p>\n
In his two-star review<\/a>, The Independent\u2019s Adam White said the documentary highlights the \u201csocial ill bred on YouTube, live streams and dodgy apps, where men instruct other men how to be better.<\/p>\n\u201cBetter, in this case, meaning becoming a dead-eyed misogynist with degenerative opinions about gender, money and sex, a fleet of supercars, and ideally two or three women on retainer to humiliate and subjugate when the impulse strikes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Later in the review, White writes: \u201cInside the Manosphere may have set out to expose this particular sub-culture as one full of beasts and charlatans, all of whom are exploiting a lost generation of men with little in the way of material hope. But didn\u2019t we know that already?
