CLEVELAND, Ohio \u2013 Prizes for the 2025 Ohio Book Awards will be issued next month.<\/p>\n
A ceremony honoring the winners in the Ohioana Library<\/a>\u2019s competition will be Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the statehouse in Columbus.<\/p>\n The awards honor Ohio authors in the following categories:<\/p>\n \u2022 Fiction<\/p>\n \u2022 Nonfiction<\/p>\n \u2022 Poetry<\/p>\n \u2022 Juvenile Literature<\/p>\n \u2022 Middle Grade<\/p>\n \u2022 Young Adult Literature<\/p>\n \u2022 About Ohio or an Ohioan (which may include books by non-Ohio authors)<\/p>\n \u2022 Readers\u2019 Choice<\/p>\n The Ohioana Book Awards, renamed in 2024 as the \u201cOhio Book Awards, Presented by Ohioana Library,\u201d are one of the nation\u2019s oldest state literary prizes. The awards were established in 1942.<\/p>\n Screeners helped pare the list of more than 300 books to five or six, Ohioana Library Executive Director Kimberlee Kiehl said in a press release.<\/p>\n All of the books were published in 2024.<\/p>\n 2025 winners<\/p>\n About Ohio or an Ohioan: Keith O\u2019Brien, \u201cCharlie Hustle: The Rise and Fall of Pete Rose, and the Last Glory Days of Baseball,\u201d Pantheon.<\/p>\n Fiction: Christopher Bollen, \u201cHavoc,\u201d Harper. <\/p>\n Juvenile: Loren Long, \u201cThe Yellow Bus,\u201d Roaring Brook Press.<\/p>\n Middle grade: Andrea Wang, \u201cSummer at Squee,\u201d Kokila. <\/p>\n Nonfiction: Timothy Snyder, \u201cOn Freedom,\u201d Crown.<\/p>\n Poetry: Yalie Saweda Kamara, \u201cBesaydoo: Poems,\u201d Milkweed Editions.<\/p>\n Young adult: Mindy McGinnis, \u201cUnder This Red Rock,\u201d Katherine Tegen Books.<\/p>\n Readers\u2019 choice: Amanda Flower, \u201cTo Slip the Bonds of Earth\u201d a Katharine Wright mystery, Kensington.<\/p>\n At the event, Ohioana will present Claudia Owusu the Walter Rumsey Marvin Grant for her essay, \u201cSwim.\u201d The Marvin Grant – named for Ohioana\u2019s second director and endowed by his family – is a competitive prize for Ohio writers 30 or younger who have not yet published a book. The award has helped launch careers of numerous writers, according to the Ohioana Library.<\/p>\n Ohioana Library, established in 1929, aims to collect, preserve and celebrate Ohio literature and other creative endeavors. The library is at 274 E.
