Sung Kang has just dropped a new trailer, but this time he\u2019s not playing by Hollywood rules.<\/p>\n
Han from the Fast and Furious<\/a> franchise is stepping into his own project with Drifter, an independent movie built around drifting.<\/p>\n It\u2019s been a while since drifting got this kind of spotlight on screen.<\/p>\n And the first look already hints this one\u2019s going in a very different direction.<\/p>\n Enter our\u00a0competition<\/a>\u00a0to win a stunning 2006 Ford GT or $400,000 cash!<\/p>\n First look at the Sung Kang drift film<\/p>\n The trailer for Drifter has finally landed, showing what Kang\u2019s been working on.\u00a0<\/p>\n This isn\u2019t a big studio production<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Instead, it\u2019s a smaller project that leans into real drift culture rather than polished movie drama.<\/p>\n Kang played Han in Tokyo Drift<\/a>, so this isn\u2019t a random crossover into car culture.<\/p>\n That film helped push drifting into the mainstream nearly two decades ago, and this one draws from the same world, just on a tighter budget.<\/p>\n From the footage, the focus stays on real driving.\u00a0<\/p>\n There are tandem runs, proper tracks, and familiar names showing up.\u00a0<\/p>\n Willow Springs Raceway<\/a> features heavily, which gives it a more grounded feel straight away.<\/p>\n There\u2019s also been talk of filming in Japan.\u00a0<\/p>\n Kang was spotted earlier this year with Larry Chen and Daijiro Yoshihara on the Wangan, although it\u2019s unclear if that footage will make the final cut or if it was just for promo.<\/p>\n Because of that mix, Drifter sits between a passion project and a full production.\u00a0<\/p>\n It doesn\u2019t have the scale of Tokyo Drift, but it\u2019s built around people who actually drift.<\/p>\n This AE86 has been completely reworked<\/p>\n Sung Kang chose a Toyota Corolla AE86<\/a> as the hero car.\u00a0<\/p>\n In the film, it\u2019s called \u2018Lola\u2019, and there isn\u2019t just one version of it.<\/p>\n There are multiple builds, and at least one of them has been heavily modified.<\/p>\n Instead of the original 4AGE engine, one version \u2013 Lola 2 \u2013 runs an LS3 V8 with custom headers.<\/p>\n That changes the car completely.\u00a0<\/p>\n The AE86 is usually known for being light and low-power.\u00a0<\/p>\n This one isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n In the trailer, it runs tandem with Adam LZ\u2019s 4-rotor Supra<\/a> and keeps pace.\u00a0<\/p>\n It doesn\u2019t lag behind or look like it\u2019s working harder to stay in line.<\/p>\n The way it moves is different too.\u00a0<\/p>\n It snaps into corners, stays loud, and looks harder to control than a typical AE86 setup.<\/p>\n![\"Fast](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/tokyo-drift-to-drifter-sung-kangs-new-movie-trailer-is-here_5-1024x429.webp.webp\")
