Fans of Beyond Paradise were left disheartened during Friday’s premiere episode of the fourth series as a departure from the show was confirmed.<\/p>\n

In the most recent episode, Humphrey Goodman, portrayed by Kris Marshall, was summoned to a meeting at South West police station, where he was taken aback to be greeted by a new colleague.<\/p>\n

A man introduced himself as James Smith, to which Humphrey confessed: “Sorry, I was expecting Chief Superintendent [Charlie] Woods.”<\/p>\n

To this, James replied: “No longer with us, I’m afraid. Oh, not deceased, in Dartmouth! Some might argue they’re much the same thing…”<\/p>\n

James then broke some heart-wrenching news, informing Humphrey that he needed to streamline and reduce Shipton Abbott Police Station.<\/p>\n

Humphrey was left perplexed, noting there are only four staff members, to which James retorted: “There should only be three!”, adding it would be Humphrey’s decision about who is made redundant.<\/p>\n

Viewers were devastated over the disappearance of Chief Superintendent Charlie Woods, played by Jade Harrison. Taking to Twitter, now X, one viewer exclaimed: “SUPERINTENDENT WOODS IS GONE!!! Days ruined now… #BeyondParadise” while another account expressed: “I’m disappointed about Charlie going. I liked her #BeyondParadise.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, another fan commented: “I’m sorry about that. I liked Charlie. She was a good boss and friend. And I liked her and Kelby #BeyondParadise” to which another enthusiast responded: “Me too” accompanied by crying emojis.<\/p>\n

Discussing his co-star’s exit and the need to let go of a team member, Humphrey star Kris exclusively told Reach PLC, “I mean, there always has to be some kind of challenge for Humphrey in terms of, because, like I said, you know, otherwise he just wanders around.<\/p>\n

“I mean, it’s that paradox, isn’t it, about TV detectives, they’re sort of fish out of water, they don’t really like rules, and yet they exist in one of the most sort of institutional, authoritarian, hierarchies, the police force.<\/p>\n

“He hates any kind of authority, he hates rules, he hates being told what he has to do, and so it’s thrust upon him, and it literally comes knocking on his door as it does. You know, he really detests that, really dislikes it, and he doesn’t like the pressure.”<\/p>\n
