Sweden\u2019s law on prostitution bans the buying of sex but not the selling; however, it is also illegal to facilitate the sale of sex.<\/p>\n
In addition to being charged with aggravated pimping, the man \u2013 who denies the accusations \u2013 was charged with eight rapes.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Ida Annerstedt told AFP that the woman, who was described as being in a vulnerable position, to \u201csome extent\u201d had \u201cagreed to sell sex\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u2018Boundaries\u2019<\/p>\n
But the woman had objected to selling sex to certain people or under certain circumstances.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are certain boundaries she has had. When he hasn\u2019t respected them, when he has steamrolled her after she has said \u2018no\u2019, those are the situations when he is charged with attempted rape, or rape,\u201d Annerstedt told AFP.<\/p>\n
He was also charged with four attempted rapes and four assaults.<\/p>\n
The charges also detailed threats made to the wife, with some of them including warnings about unleashing \u201cthe monster\u201d. <\/p>\n
The incidents were alleged to have occurred between August 11, 2022, and October 21, 2025. <\/p>\n
A trial is scheduled to start on April 13. <\/p>\n
Annerstedt told AFP that authorities had identified some 120 individuals suspected of having bought sexual services. <\/p>\n
Twenty-six men have been charged over the buying of sex related to the case, and Annerstedt said the other individuals were being investigated.<\/p>\n
Silvia Ingolfsdottir, a lawyer representing the woman, told AFP the charges resulted from the \u201cserious and aggravated crimes\u201d her client had been a victim of.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe now hopes to obtain justice,\u201d Ingolfsdottir said in a text message.<\/p>\n
According to public broadcaster SVT, the man had previously been a high-ranking member of the Hells Angels biker group.<\/p>\n
The case has received widespread attention in Sweden.<\/p>\n
Sweden\u2019s Minister for Gender Equality, Nina Larsson, in February said that men must \u201cstop buying and selling women\u2019s bodies\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe media reports about the so\u2011called \u2018Swedish Pelicot case\u2019 are shocking and disgusting,\u201d she said in a post to X.<\/p>\n
