{"id":356909,"date":"2026-03-31T14:25:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T14:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/356909\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T14:25:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T14:25:13","slug":"mount-panorama-safety-change-could-come-before-bathurst-6-hour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/356909\/","title":{"rendered":"Mount Panorama safety change could come before Bathurst 6 Hour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/ralf-aron-bathurst-12-hour-crash.jpg\" alt=\"Bathurst safety changes could come before 6 Hour\"\/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe damaged Craft-Bamboo Racing Mercedes-AMG driven by Ralf Aron after its crash in the Bathurst 12 Hour.<\/p>\n<p>The genesis for the potential changes is the frightening crash during this year\u2019s Bathurst 12 Hour that <a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/bathurst-12-hour-news-2026-rafl-aron-injury-mercedes-crash-video-update-broken-back-comments-reaction-statement\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">left Ralf Aron with a broken back<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Craft-Bamboo Mercedes driver made heavy impact with a Porsche that was left stranded at Forrest\u2019s Elbow while Johannes Zelger was at the wheel.<\/p>\n<p>The spun Porsche didn\u2019t immediately prompt a red flag despite being left in its precarious position for the best part of a half a minute before the lead pack arrived at racing speed.<\/p>\n<p>That thrust the handling of the matter from race control into the spotlight.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/bathurst-12-hour-news-2026-crash-investigation-motorsport-australia-craft-bamboo-ralf-aron\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Motorsport Australia has since completed a thorough investigation into the matter<\/a>, finding that no fault fell at the feet on the officials directly involved.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the governing body has discovered some potential procedural improvements that will today be assessed by its own Motorsport Risk and Safety Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Should the committee agree to the changes, it is hoped they will be implemented before this weekend\u2019s Bathurst 6 Hour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe completed our internal investigation within a week of the incident,\u201d Motorsport Australia CEO Josh Blanskby told Speedcafe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClearly, it was a very serious incident. We wanted to get to the bottom of that. That was presented to our board in late February, where it found that there was no fault for any of the marshals \u2013 they followed all protocols.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn saying that, we felt like there were some recommendations that could improve how Bathurst is governed from a flag marshalling perspective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat paper is going to our Motorsport and Safety Committee on Tuesday (today), with some clear recommendations that we\u2019ve made as a management and I\u2019d be very hopeful that committee also endorses that, which will allow changes to be brought in for the 6 hour over Easter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The exact nature of the proposed changes is not yet known.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The damaged Craft-Bamboo Racing Mercedes-AMG driven by Ralf Aron after its crash in the Bathurst 12 Hour.
