Chris Pratt has admitted there’s one iconic aspect of Mario that he ‘never fully got right’. The actor returns to voice the Brooklyn plumber in the sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and fans may notice a major change.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Screen Rant<\/a>, Pratt shared that he altered how the titular character says his catchphrase “Mamma Mia”.<\/p>\n

Pratt explained: “I’m not going to say it right now because I haven’t done all my vocal warmups. I don’t want to do it, but it’s ‘Mamma Mia’.”<\/p>\n

He continued: “And when you hear that original version of the character, it’s in Italian. It’s like, [high-pitched] ‘Mamma Mia’. And I’m like, ‘Why does it make sense for a guy who’s from Brooklyn who doesn’t have that accent to use that so much?'”<\/p>\n

“So it was always tough,” he explained. “They’re like, ‘It’s written as ‘Mamma Mia’. But I’m like, if I’m expressing some reverence or some sense of, ‘Oh wow, Mamma Mia’. But that’s not something necessarily a person says unless they’re doing the Italian accent. So it’s always really hard to find how ‘Mamma Mia’ works.”<\/p>\n

Pratt went on to say that he always tries to vary how he says it a little, adding: “I think that’s maybe why they slowed it down to take some of the stink off it because I’m not sure I ever fully got it right, but it’s like, ‘Maaammaaa Miaaaa’.”<\/p>\n

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie<\/a> hits cinemas on 1 April and sees Pratt returning alongside Charlie Day, Jack Black, and Anya Taylor-Joy. Newcomers to the cast include Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr, Brie Larson as Rosalina and Donald Glover as Yoshi. <\/p>\n

Earlier this month, a potential spoiler<\/a> for the film appeared online when a synopsis named an iconic villain from the franchise that Mario would be facing off with. <\/p>\n

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie<\/a> will be released on 1 April.<\/p>\n
