\n\tTems<\/a> brought an intimate performance of \u201cWhat You Need\u201d to The Tonight Show<\/a> last night. Appearing alongside a live band and several backup singers, the Nigerian singer offered an evocative rendition of the emotional ballad, off her most recent EP, Love Is a Kingdom<\/a>. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWhat You Need,\u201d the EP\u2019s debut single, was originally released last fall. It was written and produced by Tems alongside her frequent collaborator, GuiltyBeatz. The track sees Tems declaring her independence from a relationship that isn\u2019t working: \u201cI\u2019m better on my own, you\u2019re better when you\u2019re gone.\u201d<\/p>\n \t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n \n\tLove Is a Kingdom followed Tems\u2019 2024 debut album, Born in the Wild<\/a>. That album arrived six years after Tems dropped her debut single, 2018\u2019s \u201cMr. Rebel.\u201d She since enjoyed several hits of her own, like 2020\u2019s \u201cDamages\u201d and 2022\u2019s \u201cFree Mind,\u201d and made memorable features on Wizkid\u2019s\u00a02021 smash \u201cEssence\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and 2022\u2019s\u00a0\u201cWait for U,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0with Future and Drake.\u00a0The singer released her first EP,\u00a0For Broken Ears, in 2020, then followed it up in 2021 with\u00a0If Orange Was a Place.<\/p>\n \n\tTems is set to perform at All Points East in London in August.
