In response, frontman Casablancas revealed that the group had \u201cjammed and started some stuff\u201d<\/a>, but told fans that The Strokes\u2019 next record was \u201cextremely v far off\u201d from being finished. \u201cCheck back in a year or [two] honestly,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Guitarist Albert Hammond Jr later recalled the \u201cmagical\u201d new sessions<\/a>\u00a0with Rubin, and looked ahead to the band\u2019s future. \u201cI don\u2019t think we\u2019ve written our best songs yet,\u201d he said. \u201cI really feel that in my gut.\u201d<\/p>\n

During an interview with\u00a0NME\u00a0in spring 2023<\/a>, Hammond Jr gave an update on the progress of The Strokes\u2019 next full-length effort.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think [Rubin] was just so excited about where we recorded,\u201d the musician told us of the producer\u2019s revelation from the previous year. \u201cBut I don\u2019t know what to say about it \u2013 I don\u2019t have any information on it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not like it\u2019s happening and I\u2019m hiding something. We went and did a bunch of recording. It could come out a year or two years from now \u2013 it\u2019s an unknown amount of time when it\u2019ll be finished but, yes, we are working on another record.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to NME in 2020<\/a>, the NYC indie icons suggested that they could \u201cbe a little quicker\u201d to release their next album, following the seven-year gap between \u2018Comedown Machine\u2019<\/a> and \u2018The New Abnormal\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we have a good thing going,\u201d Casablancas told us. \u201cWe have a good relationship with Rick. In theory, knock on wood, we should be working faster.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Strokes last played in the UK when\u00a0they headlined All Points East 2023 in London<\/a>. More recently,\u00a0Casablancas teamed up with Charli XCX<\/a>\u00a0on a reworking of \u2018Mean Girls\u2019 from\u00a0her \u2018Brat\u2019 remix album<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He released a new record with The Voidz<\/a>, 2024\u2019s \u2018Like All Before You\u2019<\/a>, before dropping the group\u2019s EP \u2018M\u0119\u011f\u017c \u00d8f R\u00e5m\u2019<\/a> the following year.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Hammond Jr shared his fifth solo LP,\u00a0\u2018Melodies On Hiatus\u2019<\/a>, while bassist Nikolai Fraiture reunited with his other band, Summer Moon. Elsewhere, guitarist Nick Valensi released an EP with his group CRX in 2024, \u2018Interiors\u2019, and\u00a0played on Ringo Starr\u2019s \u2018Crooked Boy\u2019 collection<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In autumn 2024, Casablancas opened up about why he had \u201ckind of stepped away a little bit\u201d from The Strokes<\/a> as he focused on The Voidz. He called his role in The Strokes \u201ca very cool day job that I\u2019m honoured to have\u201d.<\/p>\n

The frontman explained last summer that The Strokes had previously \u201centered a mechanism that kept us together solely for financial reasons<\/a>, pushing the band\u2019s creativity into the background\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf someone wants to keep creating, they have to be ready for change,\u201d he continued. \u201cEven if it means the death of something they held dear.\u201d<\/p>\n

Casablancas has expressed his dismay at performing popular Strokes songs live <\/a>in the past, admitting that he\u2019d become \u201csick\u201d of doing so.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it was still fun, but when you start playing 30 or 40 shows, the music doesn\u2019t move you,\u201d he said in 2020. \u201cYou feel phoney. To some extent, that\u2019s why I play with Voidz.
