The Ministry of Health and Medical Services, in
\npartnership with UNICEF and with the generous support from
\nthe Government of Japan, has launched Fiji\u2019s first digital
\nimmunization record system to track children\u2019s
\nvaccinations nationwide.<\/p>\n

The new digital system will
\nensure that every child in Fiji has a secure vaccination
\nrecord that can be accessed from any immunization site
\nacross the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis launch is more than a
\ndigital upgrade. It is a firm commitment to protecting the
\nhealth of children through a stronger and more reliable
\nimmunization system \u2013 no matter where they are born or
\nwhere they receive care,\u201d said the Assistant
\nMinister for Health and Medical Services, Hon. Penioni
\nRavunawa. \u201cOn behalf of the Government of Fiji, I
\nsincerely thank the Government and people of Japan, UNICEF,
\nand our dedicated healthcare workers for making this
\nmilestone possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

For many years, Fiji\u2019s
\nimmunization programme relied on paper-based records, which
\nwere often lost or resulted in duplicated information,
\nespecially when families moved between clinics or islands.
\nThe manual system also placed a heavy reporting burden on
\nhealthcare workers and made it difficult to quickly identify
\nand follow up with children who had missed scheduled
\nvaccinations.<\/p>\n

The new digital system, that will be
\nimplemented across 220 immunization sites and supported by
\ntraining for approximately 500 healthcare workers, will
\naddress these challenges. It is designed to function even in
\nareas with limited internet connectivity, ensuring that
\nchildren in rural and maritime communities are not
\nmissed.<\/p>\n

\u201cDigital systems only matter when they work
\nwhere it matters most – on the ground. Today, that value has
\nbeen clearly demonstrated,\u201d said First Secretary
\nof the Embassy of Japan, Kengo HOSHINA. \u201cThis
\nproject is a practical expression of the Lomavata\u2013Kizuna
\nPartnership, delivering real benefits to communities through
\ntrust and side-by-side cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n

With reliable,
\nup-to-date data, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services
\ncan quickly identify gaps in immunization coverage, plan
\ntargeted outreach, and respond more effectively to disease
\noutbreaks. The system also strengthens Fiji\u2019s resilience
\nto climate-related emergencies by ensuring continuity of
\ncare even when paper records are lost or
\ndamaged.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo family should ever worry that their
\nchild will miss out on life-saving vaccines because of lost
\npaperwork or distance from a clinic,\u201d said UNICEF
\nPacific\u2019s Deputy Representative, Roshni Basu.
\n\u201cWith this new digital system, Fiji is breaking down
\nbarriers and ensuring that every child, no matter where they
\nlive, can grow up healthy and protected.\u201d<\/p>\n

By
\nreplacing paperbased records with a secure nationwide
\ndigital system, Fiji is building a more resilient and
\nefficient healthcare system. This shift will ensure children
\nreceive timely vaccines and give healthcare workers more
\ntime to focus on care, not paperwork.<\/p>\n
