Henry Cavill can wear the heck out of a suit, which is only one of many reasons why his name is regularly at the top of the list of James Bond<\/a> hopefuls. Before Daniel Craig scored the role in Casino Royale, Cavill was already in the mix to take on the mantle of Bond, instead having to settle for Superman, one of the most beloved heroes in history. Not content with bringing one iconic figure to life, Cavill then played Geralt for The Witcher on Netflix, but no matter how many coveted roles he scores, he’s still regularly speculated as a new Bond.<\/p>\n

Cavill was a favorite to take over as Bond since before Craig’s final outing as the figure in 2021’s No Time to Die, with every year that passes bringing us that much closer to a new Bond<\/a> being selected. However, with every passing year bringing us closer to Bond 26, Cavill himself gets older. Now 42, reports claim that a new Bond will be younger, allowing for multiple installments in the coming years. Still, Cavill confirmed he’s open to joining Bond, but suggests he play a villain as opposed to 007.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Heat Magazine, per Twitter user @nature_dweller<\/a>, Cavill confessed:<\/p>\n

“I didn\u2019t turn the role down \u2013 it just wasn\u2019t the right time. What actor wouldn\u2019t love to be Bond? But at 42, I\u2019d probably be considered a bit old to start now. I would love to be a Bond villain, though. If it was the right character, I think that would be fascinating to explore.”<\/p>\n

Arrival and Dune director Denis Villeneuve has been announced as helming the next chapter from a script by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, but outside of that, no other significant details about the next chapter<\/a> have emerged. <\/p>\n

Even though Cavill missed out on Bond, it doesn’t sound all bad for the actor, having starred in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. By playing such a larger-than-life character, Cavill reflected on what that has meant for encounters with fans:<\/p>\n

“It’s fantastic when kids recognize me, because they don’t see you as the actor who plays the superhero, they see you as actual Superman. When you take on an iconic role like that, I think there is a real responsibility, not just for the movie itself, but how you interact with the huge fanbase.”<\/p>\n

In this sense, with James Bond being a debonair secret agent who has a license to kill<\/a>, Bond might no longer be a role he wants to herald off-screen for the foreseeable future.
