{"id":362017,"date":"2026-04-03T14:13:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T14:13:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/362017\/"},"modified":"2026-04-03T14:13:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T14:13:12","slug":"lego-to-continue-sports-expansion-with-star-footballers-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/362017\/","title":{"rendered":"Lego to continue sports expansion with star footballers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Iain Axon and Tom Little, Reuters<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/4K2P87L_AFP__20230608__AR_20230608101852_AP_20230608SDBGS000046_202306081018505861883__v1__H_jpg.jpeg\" width=\"1050\" height=\"745\" alt=\"Lionel Messi and Argentina team-mates celebrate winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-captioned__information\">\nWorld Cup winner Lionel Messi, who is one of four star footballers immortalised into Lego.<br \/>\nPhoto: KEITA IIJIMA \/ AFP\n<\/p>\n<p>Danish toymaker Lego will continue its expansion into the sports market this year with a collaboration with four of the world&#8217;s most famous footballers.<\/p>\n<p>Sets celebrating Vinicius Jr, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will be made available ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>In total, seven sets have been made featuring letter-shaped designs representing each footballer which cost US$29 (NZ$50), as well as display models of Ronaldo and Messi (US$79 &#8211; NZ$138).<\/p>\n<p>World Cup winner Messi also has his own 1427-piece of 3D wall art which will feature him in his signature victory pose (US$179 &#8211; NZ$ 313), while each player will also have his own mini-figure available with the cheaper sets.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Similar to football, Lego play is all about building and rebuilding, trying new things, learning from mistakes and celebrating successes,&#8221; said Messi. &#8220;I love how these Lego sets bring my pitch moments to life in a fun and imaginative way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Real Madrid&#8217;s Vinicius Jr. said he hoped the project would help promote his passion for inclusivity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It doesn&#8217;t matter where you&#8217;re from or what language you speak, people connect through creativity and that&#8217;s really powerful,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I didn&#8217;t have much growing up, but I used to play with Lego at school, for example. Like a lot of kids, I loved building things, creating my own world, using my imagination.
