When Microsoft releases a new preview build, it announces all the new features that are ready for testing in the changelog. However, there are some features the company doesn’t announce but still make it into the preview build. These are usually experimental and work-in-progress tools that Microsoft doesn’t want people stress-testing just yet, so it disables the tool and doesn’t mention its existence.<\/p>\n

Right now, it is possible to manually enable these hidden features using a third-party app called Vivetool. However, the app may soon be made obsolete as Microsoft is adding a “Feature Flags” page that lets you turn on experimental features.<\/p>\n

This discovery was made by PhantomOfEarth, who uses Vivetool to enable hidden tools in Windows 11 preview builds and reports back on everything Microsoft is working on. This time around, they’ve spotted something that may make their job a lot easier in the future: a “Feature Flags” page that will list everything Microsoft is working on, but hasn’t enabled yet. You can use the page to manually enable these features and give them a go.<\/p>\n

Funnily enough, the page for enabling experimental features is, in itself, an experimental feature. PhantomOfEarth notes that it’s not enabled yet, so until then, Vivetool is still very much needed. In fact, there’s a chance that Microsoft will only list experimental features that are ready for general use, and may still hide very WIP tools where only Vivetool can grab them. We’ll just have to wait and see how things shake out when the Feature Flags page releases.<\/p>\n
