On April 2, a Broadway star, Laura Benanti, posted a video from a flight, saying she was surrounded by a group of teenage theatre students who did not recognize her.<\/p>\n

While the actress shared the moment as a joke, the clip quickly went viral across social media platforms and drew a wave of reactions from online users.<\/p>\n

\u201cI still don\u2019t know who she is, and I especially don\u2019t care to know now,\u201d wrote one user.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say about 83 percent of the people on this airplane are teenagers<\/a> in a theater group, and not a single one of them recognized me,\u201d Benanti said in the video.<\/p>\n

She added that she approached them and mentioned she \u201cdoes theater,\u201d but the response she got was simply, \u201cCool.\u201d<\/p>\n

She ended the story with a dry joke<\/a>, saying, \u201cRIP.\u201d<\/p>\n

The video was later reposted on X, where it quickly reached a wider audience<\/a>, and the tone of the reaction shifted.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo clue who this lady is,\u201d one person wrote. Another added, \u201cI legit have no idea who she is. First time hearing her name.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some comments mocked the situation. \u201cAnyone know who the hell she is?\u201d one user asked, while another wrote, \u201cAin\u2019t no one know who you are, lady, you obviously delusional<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others focused on her expectations. \u201cHer ego is hurt because teenagers couldn\u2019t recognize her,\u201d one comment read.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, another flock of users defended her while others doubled down on her video<\/p>\n

While many criticized<\/a> her, others pointed out that Benanti is a well-known name in theatre.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is a literal legend, and the fact that people are this uncultured is terrifying<\/a>,\u201d one person wrote.<\/p>\n

Still, the criticism continued across platforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cI Googled her and still don\u2019t know who she is. Was she in No Hard Feelings? Was she the mom?\u201d one user wrote, referring to her role as Allison Becker in the Jennifer Lawrence<\/a>-led film.<\/p>\n

Other remarks were more personal. \u201cLooks like another annoying Karen<\/a>,\u201d one comment read, while another added, \u201cShe looks like a lady I\u2019d expect to be denied entry for drinking too much wine at the bar in the airport.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the backlash grew, Benanti addressed the situation in a follow-up video posted on April 3.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat video is me making fun<\/a> of myself \u2014 not making fun of those kids, not expecting them to know me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She added that she is aware of her place in the industry and does not expect widespread recognition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know nobody cares about me. I literally have a comedy<\/a> show called \u2018Laura Benanti: Nobody Cares,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

In the caption, she reiterated her point, writing: \u201cDear Internet, I was making fun of MYSELF.\u201d<\/p>\n
