A Strong Wind Watch is in place as east to northeast winds may approach severe gale in exposed places between 3am to 4pm tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cPeople are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">A heavy rain watch is in place for Auckland from 9am to 9pm tomorrow for areas north of Papakura and Great Barrier Island. There\u2019s a moderate chance of the rainfall amounts to reach warning criteria, MetService said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">Parts of Bay of Plenty and Rotorua are also under a heavy rain watch, with forecasters warning conditions could worsen over the next two days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">Periods of heavy rain were forecast for areas west of Whakat\u0101ne, including Rotorua, from 3pm Tuesday until 6pm Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">Rainfall totals may exceed warning thresholds, with a high chance the watch could be upgraded to a heavy rain warning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/topic\/metservice\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/topic\/metservice\/\" target=\"_blank\">MetService<\/a> meteorologist Alanna Burrows said yesterday the system is expected to form in the subtropics before gradually tracking south towards the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">However, Burrows said there was a significant degree of uncertainty around the system\u2019s intensity and exact path, which will determine how severe the impacts are and where they are felt most.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThere is still uncertainty on the exact intensity of this system or the position of this system, and that will affect the distribution of rain associated with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">Burrows said regions including Northland, Auckland, the Coromandel Peninsula, western <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/topic\/tasman-district\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/topic\/tasman-district\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tasman<\/a> and the country\u2019s western ranges were being monitored as the system develops.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">The wettest conditions are likely to arrive midweek, as the low moves slowly across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cIt\u2019s going to be a very wet day through Wednesday, before it starts to clear eastwards through Thursday, with a ridge of high pressure pushing back in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">MetService said there was a low chance of upgrading to a red warning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">Northland was still recovering from last month\u2019s severe weather that prompted a red warning \u2013 the most serious alert possible. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">The region suffered widespread flooding, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/northern-advocate\/news\/weather-hit-northland-communities-face-health-concerns-in-slit-clean-up\/AHMJER66YJARVKHRQTHCWSD27U\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/northern-advocate\/news\/weather-hit-northland-communities-face-health-concerns-in-slit-clean-up\/AHMJER66YJARVKHRQTHCWSD27U\/\">settlements in Whang\u0101rei and the Far North cut off and more than 80 homes damaged<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">Both districts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/northern-advocate\/news\/northland-weather-more-deluge-on-the-way-as-northland-heavy-rain-warning-extended\/BFRGHH52PBAXTEBOBYDH3Y4ZTQ\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/northern-advocate\/news\/northland-weather-more-deluge-on-the-way-as-northland-heavy-rain-warning-extended\/BFRGHH52PBAXTEBOBYDH3Y4ZTQ\/\">declared states of emergency to trigger additional powers<\/a>, however, both have since been lifted, with Whang\u0101rei and the Far North officially transitioning to recovery phases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">Civil Defence Northland is urging Northlanders to prepare their property and possessions ahead of the forecast downpours and gale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sYHrSxRJWo\" style=\"display:none\">\u201c &#8230; Take extreme care on the roads tomorrow, particularly in the morning when there is the possibility of surface flooding, debris and slips on the roads.
