At Sotheby\u2019s Modern Day Auction on March 30, the painting was sold for HKD2.4 million (US$306,000) as against an earlier estimated HKD800,000-1.8 million ($102,000-230,000). The lower right corner of the painting bears the artist\u2019s signature, seal and year of creation.<\/p>\n
Thu (1906-1980) graduated from the first class (1925-1930) of the Indochina College of Fine Arts, and is regarded as one of the \u201cfour great masters in Europe\u201d of Vietnamese painting, alongside Le Pho, Vu Cao Dam and Le Thi Luu.<\/p>\n
Many of his works have fetched high prices on the art market.
