Jaws was released over 50 years ago<\/a>, and people are still terrified of sharks. There are scream-worthy moments in Close Encounters of the Third Kind<\/a> and Jurassic Park<\/a>. And while Steven Spielberg technically didn\u2019t direct Poltergeist<\/a>\u2014Tobe Hooper<\/a> did\u2014he produced it, wrote the story, and co-wrote the screenplay. And now, five decades into what\u2019s been a very genre-heavy filmmaking career, Spielberg admits he\u2019s still hoping to direct a horror movie eventually.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Empire<\/a>, however, the Oscar winner explained there\u2019s a reason why he hasn\u2019t yet taken the plunge.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t directed a horror film yet, and I\u2019ve always wanted to, and someday I may,\u201d he said. \u201cBut there have been some great horror films out already that satisfy that itch.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zach Cragger\u2019s Weapons is one such example. \u201cWhen I see a great horror film like Weapons, I don\u2019t have an itch I need to scratch. I see\u00a0Weapons, and it doesn\u2019t make me want to make a horror film that\u2019s as scary or scarier than\u00a0Weapons. It satisfies me so completely, it actually arrests my desire to someday make a really, really scary movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spielberg\u2019s latest alien-themed movie, Disclosure Day<\/a>, arrives June 12, and it seems he doesn\u2019t have that same urge to put off sci-fi when he sees a really great sci-fi film from another filmmaker. Case in point: he loves Denis Villeneuve\u2019s Dune movies and thinks they \u201chonor\u201d the books by Frank Herbert, which he also loves.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are among my favorite science fiction movies, not just recently, but of all time. Especially the second film,\u201d he told Empire. \u201cI think [Part Two] is the best movie Denis has ever made. I cannot wait to see the third one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Being Spielberg has its privileges, by the way. Dune: Part Three isn\u2019t out till December<\/a>, but \u201cI\u2019m sure he\u2019ll show it to me early. I\u2019m such a fan of his.\u201d<\/p>\n
