The third season of Apple TV\u2019s Shrinking comes to an end this week, and with it, the three-season arc co-creator Bill Lawrence initially plotted. But, rest assured, all the psychologically fragile characters you know and love will return, despite what Bill Lawrence will tell you on X, the Everything app. Over the weekend, Lawrence sent the Shrinking community running for the couch after some misinterpreted a post of his about next season<\/a>, which reads, \u201cexcited to start completely new story next year. Feels scary\/risky\/fun.\u201d The tweet led some fans to believe that the show would move in an entirely different direction with the same cast playing new characters. Frankly, that would be some really outside-the-box thinking from Lawrence, and not exactly the type of thing we expect from his good-natured, emotionally intelligent comedy. Though he currently has Rooster on HBO Max, Scrubs on Hulu, and a returning Ted Lasso on Apple TV, Lawrence spent Saturday fielding questions from fans over what he meant by Shrinking\u2018s \u201ccompletely new story.\u201d By the end of several exchanges, Lawrence was sending tired posts like \u201cMaybe let\u2019s all go outside?\u201d and \u201cThis all got weird. lol. My bad. Yeah. They\u2019re the same characters.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ultimately, he explains that he pitched Shrinking as a three-season arc, but much like Ted Lasso, just because the story is ending, that doesn\u2019t mean there can\u2019t be more to watch. Speaking to Variety<\/a>, Lawrence clarified what he meant by reiterating that the show would feature \u201cthe EXACT same cast\u201d numerous times. Lawrence explains that the audience will feel a \u201ccompletely different story\u201d in season four because the characters have \u201cenough going on\u201d for the writers to explore deeper. However, not to scare anyone, \u201cpeople shouldn\u2019t be surprised if there\u2019s a time jump and it feels like we\u2019re telling a completely different story.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regardless of what Lawrence says, people will likely be terrified to learn of the time jump whenever season four premieres. Though that flash forward could help provide runway for some of the joke ideas he tossed out over the weekend, including \u201cSHINKERS,\u201d a series about incredible shrinking therapists that can \u201cride around in their patients\u2019 ears.
