A Dunedin business is upset at a recent spate of graffiti targeting the city\u2019s street murals.<\/p>\n
It came to the\u00a0Otago Daily Times\u2019 attention after Lincoln Darling, of Darling Realty, posted a picture of the defaced\u00a0Chrome Bull, by Bik Ismo, in Dowling St.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018It\u2019s really upsetting that this has happened,\u2019\u2019 Mr Darling said.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018The mural was a one-off \u2014 we got the artist to come all the way from Portugal to Dunedin to make this work. Then you have these nasty little people wreck it \u2014 that doesn\u2019t reflect well on Dunedin.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
Mr Darling said the city council and police had been informed about the incidents.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018There are now 118 street art masterpieces throughout Dunedin, and it is always a highlight to see visitors discovering them, stopping to admire the artworks and take photos as they explore the city.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
Graffiti Doctor Roger Knauf said about this time of year he could earn more than $2500 in overnight cleanup jobs.<\/p>\n
It was very much a \u2018\u2018seasonal\u2019\u2019 job in Dunedin.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018We get increased night-time hours and also you\u2019ve got a student population during the winter months, where you don\u2019t have it over the summer months. So it comes in ebbs and flows.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
He advised anyone who became a victim of a graffiti attack to get it sorted as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018The main thing I always recommend is just quickly removing it, regardless of your method. It\u2019s speed of removal that tends to dissuade them from re-tagging the building.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
In recent times, he had noticed graffiti attacks in Moray Pl, Great King St and near the new ACC building.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018My guess is it\u2019s probably down to either somebody new in town or somebody\u2019s changed their tag so they\u2019re trying to get a bit of notoriety by doing a large swathe of tagging across the city.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018Immediate removal is the best remedy … So the quicker you remove it, the less likely they are to do a repeat performance.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
