Despite being told she cannot \u2026 she walks to the victim \u2026 she pulled out a hammer with a pink handle and struck Mr Jones,\u201d Judge Sweeney said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cShe admits, \u2018I smashed him with a hammer\u2019, saying \u2018he stole my brother\u2019s ashes\u2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThis is a matter in which Ms Graham comes before the court with what was seemingly an unprovoked and gratuitously violent attack. There are no conditions that could be imposed that would address the bail concerns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">Graham was refused bail and is due to appear before court again on June 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">Jones remains in hospital in critical condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">NSW\u2019s shadow health minister Sarah Mitchell said the incident was \u201cshocking\u201d, adding: \u201cOur hospitals are meant to be places of care, not crime scenes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NSW Health responds<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">On Thursday morning, Sydney Local Health District CEO Deb Willcox confirmed staff at the hospital had spoken to Graham before the incident took place.<\/p>\n<p><img  alt=\"NSW Health has emphasised hospital safety and is assisting police investigations into an attack on a patient. Photo \/ Facebook<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cI am advised the staff did speak to the person who came into the ward and there was no issue,\u201d Willcox said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThis is a very big hospital \u2026 staff do whatever they can to accommodate loved ones and friends and family who may come at different times of the day and night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cOur patient was in a four-bedded bay in one of our general wards in the main hospital. The hospital ward had a number of other patients in our care \u2026 people are a bit rattled and distressed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">Willcox said the hospital used a 24\/7 security service and staff at all levels did \u201ceverything that was appropriate\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">She also said people should still feel safe to go to the hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">In a statement, NSW Sydney Local Health District confirmed the alleged attack and said no other injuries were reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThe safety and wellbeing of our patients and staff across Sydney Local Health District are our highest priority and any form of violence in our hospitals is unacceptable,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThis matter is now the subject of an ongoing NSW Police investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cSydney Local Health District is working with NSW Police to assist their inquiries \u2026 [and] is also offering support to staff who witnessed this distressing incident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"jfCtLXHy\" style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/my-account\/profile\/newsletters\/?from=cmp\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/my-account\/profile\/newsletters\/?from=cmp\">Sign up to Herald Premium Editor\u2019s Picks<\/a>, delivered straight to your inbox every Friday.
